Cheap access to Laser adjustments on premium priced Kapex saw

I just spent 1300 on a Kapex saw which for the most part I think is worth it. I do not like the way I have to pierce a cheap piece of plastic stick on crap to adjust my lasers!!! Come on guys. The least that can be done on this otherwise fine saw would be to incorporate an access door for the Laser adjustments and to have a storage place on the back of the door for the adjuster tool. I think having holes in the side of my new saw cheapens it appearance. Please consider addressing this issue as I think this could enhance an otherwise fine saw.

Tom,

Try some ebony plugs.  After you glue them in and the glue dries, use the RAS115 to sand them down most of the way, then finish with the ETS150.  You can further polish them with the Shinex.  [big grin] [big grin]

Just call Festool service and ask them to send you a replacement sticker.  Use a hair dryer or carefully use a heat gun to replace the sticker if necessary.

That is a nice idea, but I did not spend 1300 dollars on a tool so that I could plug, glue and sand it to make it look decent!!! They need to step up to the plate and make this part of the saw up  to the quality level that is present on the rest of the unit!!!

Tom, I thought it was blatantly obvious that the first part of my post wasn't serious.  I see your point to all this, but I don't see Festool changing that.  Easier to just put a new sticker on.

I don't have a kapex so I cannot comment specifically on the part in question, but I know what you mean about having a poor quality part on an otherwise high-quality tool and I agree with you. It sort of "lets the whole side down."

But at least it is not a critical component and does not affect the use of the tool.

I don't understand the complaining about poking a hole in the sticker to adjust the lasers.

It is a tool not fine china.

You wouldn't want to see all the stains and paint on mine, not to mention blood spatter that I still can't get off.

I don't like the fact that I have to poke holes either.  I just put a piece of tape over the holes.  I don't baby my tools at all but I feel something else could have been done.  I still wouldn't trade my kapex for anything.

On a more constructive note: Maybe if the sticker had an `X` perforation so the plastic could 'relax' after adjustment?

They could punch the hole marks before applying the sticker to the saw. This would aid in aligning it to the holes. When I tried to insert the allen tool into the holes since the sticker was offset from the holes it proved difficult to accomplish. Therefore if the holes were pre punched then the sticker could be properly put on perhaps using some pins or guide setup to improve the fit and finish on this otherwise very well executed product!

Not a bad idea if you were going to do that yourself on a replacement sticker.  Then it wouldn't be an issue for you for future adjustments.
