Festool doesn't need me to defend them for sure, but I just wanted to add my 2 cents anyhow. I rarely place a great deal of faith in these type of reviews, particularly when I am familiar with the tools in question. Anger and just plain ignorance (CT vac bags @32.00 each, can't use the CT as a shop vac, etc.) can get the better of some people and the Internet offers a wide audience for venting. My first question for him would have been, why he simply didn't avail himself of Festool's 30 day $$ back guaranty? I know that I would have done just that if I paid out heavy coin for a couple of tools and they performed so miserably. But before I returned them I would have asked for some assistance/help from my dealer, instead of screamin' like a bitch on a forum.
I have been selling Festool tools for nearly 8 years and can literally count on 2 hands the total number of tools that customers had asked to be returned. That, more than anything, speaks of the inherent quality of the line.
Here is part of an email that I received from one of my customers about an hour ago:. He's a pro, not a hobbyist so he puts the tools through their paces. This is not an atypical email from Festool customers, as other Festool dealers can attest to.
Bob,
I have to tell you, every time I consider buying a Festool product I always wince at the cost. The stuff is just so expensive, usually 2-3 times the competition. It takes time but in most cases I cave in and take the plunge. Then I get the item, in the case of my most recent purchase, the Rotex 5 inch sander, I get it I take it out play with it and stick it back in my tool closet. Then I take it out later and start to use it and I rediscover why I am continually drawn to spend the extra money. The stuff is just so good, so well thought out. It makes you capable of doing better quality work and whatever regret you may have over spending so much money just melts away. I've got four tools and am about to buy the router and while I know I am buying the baby of the bunch the 1010 I know it will be able to handle whatever I find myself doing.
