Child Safe Clear Finish for Crib

I am sure that by now [member=74050]captkirk[/member] will have settled on a plan for his new grandchild - if we go on deliberating the child will be at university !

Only kidding.

Funny Peter, but I’m just now getting ready to apply finish, so all advice is timely. I have for this project however settled on Earthpaint looking Glass Beeswax Polish.

This has provided a couple of immediate benefits to me:

1. I applied the beeswax to the parts before gluing which helped prevent squeeze out from penetrating the wood grain. With about 90 glued joints this has been a finish saver.

2. It is easy to apply and reapply as necessary. Like oil finishes, a small repair can be done with out being concerned about refinishing large portions of the project.

Additionally, the baby’s Mom loves the idea of a beeswax finish because it’s so natural and has no real offensive odor even during application.

So thank you everyone for you advice, it’s been really helpful. I’m providing an image of the finished crib section as I am preparing to drill for threaded inserts and bolts to ensure the crib is strong yet easy to dissemble.

Peace to your house.
