I managed to pick up a 2nd hand Hammer N4400 bandsaw in great condition and also an Axminster trade pillar drill both of which arrived today  [big grin] managed to set both machines up and build a mobile base stand for the pillar drill out of some scrap 3/4 plywood and 4"x3" timber but ran out of time to play  ::) but there's always tomorrow  [big grin] here's a couple of pics

That's exactly what it is, it's a guard with a trip switch so if it is not in position the drill will not operate. I think it is mainly for use when drilling metal for eye protection I will probe remove it and override the switch as it is quite annoying.

Those puppies look new. Congrats!! [big grin] [wink]

Thanks  [big grin] got the A3 in a sweet deal about 4 months ago direct from Felder uk it was 2014 model and had only been on display in their showroom and had never been used (so basically brand new) I got the digital hand wheel and rolling carriage inc for less than the basic machine would have cost before 20% VAT (taxes)  [cool]. The bandsaw is a 2012 model but has been well looked after and runs like new and a 3rd of the original cost which was a nice bonus, think it's a good job I only have a 1 car garage workshop as Hammer seems to be just as addictive as Festool  [eek]

I have got the exact same drill and agree it is very annoying. I think I'll remove mine as well and override the switch. I would prefer to use separate eye protection.

I also have the A3-26 and N4400 and love both. I got the ceramic guides and think I prefer them (I found they took a bit of getting used to). I also got the sanding attachment (which includes a circle cutting attachment) which I am less impressed with as it is fiddly to fit.

Congratulations on picking up a bargain!

Cheers , Yeah I prefer to use safety specs too, seems like it will be easy to override the guard. I really like the Hammer machines would have really liked a sliding table saw but just don't have he room for one  ::) just have to stick with my portable table saw for now, maybe one day. I looked at the sanding attachment for the n4400 but didn't think it looked much good i'l probably end up getting some sort of edge sander eventually.
