It's that time of year again and I usually start too late to make Christmas gifts.  Last year I posted some photos of a bowfront jewelry box with continuous end grain bookmatching.  This year I decided to make a video of the process.  While long, it covers the entire production and most of it without me talking.  I sure hope Lauren doesn't see this.  Enjoy.

very cool vid. i especially liked the detail on the handles.
personally i'd rather listen to you talking about what you are doing than listening to chirpy music, but hey, no accounting for taste eh?

Very nice build. One day I'll have time to do something like this. The interlocking rabbet is a nice detail

One question Steve...I figured you covered the bottom in plastic wrap to keep the glue off of the velvet.  Was it easy to remove afterwards?

Steve,

Thanks for sharing both the jewelry box and the video. Both are very nice, although I have to agree, I prefer your commentary to the music. I'm sure the recipient will love it.

It was primarily done to keep sawdust and finish off the material.  A sharp exacto knife makes quick dispatch of the wrap.

I never would have guessed the preference to hear me ramble on over classical music.

Beautiful job.  I liked the commentary as well, but didn't mind the music.  Was the finish spray shellac?

The spray finish was Deft Clear Wood Finish which is a lacquer.  I did pad on a coat of garnet shellac before spraying with the lacquer.
