I these two DC's and they are both over 5 years old.  I have never changed the filters on either one but should I?  Do they need to be replaced on can I shake them out?  I bought new bags today and it got me thinking...

I replace my CT filters twice a year. I tap them out least once a week.

Hi Howard!

Yu can try tapping them gently  and see what happens.  Personally I resort to a low pressure high volume device - a cheap electric leaf blower and use that from the back side although that is not a Festool recommended remedy.  My filters are now about 5 years old.  Do not use an air compressor or damage can be done.

I happened to speak to Festool service last week about this very issue. The technician told me he hadn't changed his in 10 years or so. Mine are currently eight years old and still looking fine.

The bags do most of the work anyway.

many times ive used compressed air to blow out dust from stihl saw filters. its never damaged them yet. obviously you gotta be carefull about the dust.

theyre the same type of filters.

id personally probably just tap them out. they dont seem to trap that much from what ive seen in the year and a bit ive owned a ctl midi
