Hey,
What do you guys use to clean router bits ,saw blades ? To get gum, pitch, tar off then so they cut optimally ?
I've been using WD-40 &/or 3-in-One oil & a stiff SS wire brush

I see these biodegradable products offered but I'm really NOT keen on spraying a water based product on a tool that might/will rust OR foul a router bearing  [blink]

I have used a number of cleaners over the years.  I have found the best cleaner to be Felder Harzloser but it is also the most expensive.  Wurth Pitch and Resin Remover, CMT 2050 and Krud Kutter also work well.  I have also used Simple Green but it didn't seem to work as well as the others.  I use a battery powered nylon bristle SonicScrubber purchased at the grocery store and a plastic oil drain plan for cleaning blades.

I have never seen or heard what is in it but it is pleasant to use...

WoW , I have a older Sonic Care cordless tooth brush that would work just great with the CMT 2050 . I was just wondering what I could use the older model for when I got the newer version of the power tooth brush
ThanX
This FOG forum is just a Great resource for ideas  [thumbs up]

We use 5-6 gallons of this a year in our shop:

Pitch Rx
[attachthumb=1]

We also sell it if your interested. Just spray it on, let it sit 1-2 min. wipe it off. for heavy build up, use a hard toothbrush.

Thanks

Simple Green works well, but probably best if soaked in it for several minutes. It's more environmentally friendly than the other cleaners sold just for blade cleaning.

Ive used Krud Cutter, works good,

Trend makes a good one, small bottle but goes a long way,

The one you have in the photo works good (about as good as krud cutter) ,

Just got the CMT stuff havent tried it yet.

I used to use "Easy Off Oven Cleaner" but, recently I've had good luck with Simple Green.

Thinners work just fine, I use them all the time. Or WD40, terpentine or ammonia.

All you need is a solution that is good at dissolving grease/fats, and there are many of those.

I was about to buy the CMT formula and then tried the citrus solvent that I had for cutting Tung Oil. It worked very well and it smells good.

this stuff is the same stuff but cheaper

I was gonna buy the CMT but was told by a freind that this did the same as the CMT

& I already had a gallon of the stuff in the house already
As I use it just like 409 around the house  but dilute it down 20 to 1 ratio .
this stuff will degrease a engine  but it's harmless & smalls nice
I even use it to kill ants & scale on plants dissolves insects exoskeletons on contact & will not harm tender plants  same dilute ratio as the 409 replacement 20 : 1

cleans blades,bits  instantly full strength

EDIT ::: Lowes has it for $12.oo a GALLON

Tom this stuff works great on Killing a whole ant nest  I dilute it down 10;1 for ant hills
I make up a whole gallon & pore it down the hole , to get the queens & I keep a sprayer near to get the ones running at me , kills on contact
I know you got Red Fire ants there
beats poison big time  [big grin]

Slappy, thanks for the ideas...

I've figured out that for the fire ants, I make a big pot of boiling water and introduce them to the hot tub culture...

It can have really interesting results. I should have called a Naturalist one time - They all grouped up to expire in a huge pile of hundreds. or probably,  thousands.

I have no desire to eliminate ants. I think they have many valuable things to do in the world. I just don't want them biting me or my guests.

I think a hot bath teaches them where not to be and it is very friendly to the environment.
