Cleaning your bits & saw blades ?

Slappy,
I liked the price on the Zep, but it is not for me. Whereas Citrus Solvent is completely free of toxins, Zep contains ether and lye. http://www.cleanandpolish.com/msds/Industrial_Purple_Cleaner_&_Degreaser_MSDS.pdf

I am willing to pay a little more for something that will not affect the health of me or my family.
yeah , i see your point  as you work in your house , my use of this stuff is outside of the common areas & in the shop ,garden
but your link is not for the citrus cleaner that another product of Zep the purple degreaser
here's the right page http://www.homedepot.com/catalog/pdfImages/ca/ca91d217-a686-4142-ba23-71802e235447.pdf
the stuff doesn't have caustic soda but does have the Glycol ether
but really those are not as  toxic as denatured alcohol & some of solvents used by many of us in oil finishes
but everyone has make their own personal choices and I not advocating one's choice over another .
I am pointing out that some high priced bit cleaners  are just this stuff in fancy labeled squirt bottle
& I myself would rather use this than most oil based solvents ,gasoline, kerosene , lacquer thinner , oven cleaner or caustic lye

Slappy,
I hear you. Yes, because I'm using finishing and cleaning products indoors, I make the best effort, that I can, to use toxin-free products.  It think that it has become a de facto selling point for my builds and I think one reason why the referrals have been flowing in.
The extra cost for the Citrus Solvent is well worth it.

Simple Green works well.  I believe it is completely biodegradable with no harmful chemicals. I've used it full-strength on router bits and saw blades with success.

I myself can't tolerate Simple Green  it makes me start to wheeze & brings on severe headaches . As does 409 .

here in NorCal especially Marin county & San Francisco , That would be a Big Selling benefit/advantage to use only natural non-toxic methods to finish custom projects . I might in fact start offering that process once I start my "one-man" shop up , that's way down the road as I have to get my skill level way up 1st . But it is one way to stand up as different choice  from other "one man " shops .
from what I've read the main ingredient is citrus solvent & the rest is  stabilizers .
I myself am looking to get the raw material like what you use , I too like using Tung Oil
NYC , what is your process for thinning tung oil with Citrus oil ? I just got a gallon of raw tung oil , all the recipes I've seen  all use products that I'm trying to avoid

Slappy,
3-1 citrus to tung oil for the first coat on day one, 2-1 after that, each day for 7-11 days or, until the wood doesn't need it. Many go 1-1, some even use it without cutting it. The citrus solvent helps the oil penetrate into the wood and allows it to dry faster. I lightly sand between coats. After the oil I apply 2/3 coats of wax.  Try a project for your home.  You might find modifications that work better for your climate/ wood species. Hope this helps.
