Hi All,
I have today received through the post a leaflet about "The new Cleantec connecting system with integrated Bayonet catch". can anyone enlighten me as to what this is.The leaflet description does not seem to help.
Thanks
Matthew
The other thing to be wary of is that the new design on non-snagging hose comes with the Cleantec bayonet at the tool end on some models but not others.
Confusion is not helped by the fact that some of the product info on Festool's own website (in the UK anyhow) is incorrect.
I recieved a flyer about the new hoses just after Xmas and, frustrated with the old hose fallying off my Festool router that does have the bayonet, I found the 36-32mm tapered hose -
Suction hose D 36/32x3,5m-AS - was available in the new format and descibed in the features list as:
"the CLEANTEC extraction sleeve securely connects the suction hose and power tool with bayonet fitting"
When it arrived, the packaging illustrated a bayonet end, but although the hose was the new woven sleeved non-snag great improvement, the end was without bayonet.
I contacted my reseller, they told me it must be a mistake on their website, I checked the Festool.co.uk website, same wrong info. My reseller told me that hose had no bayonet end, and no retrofit bayonet end was available.
Before I sent it back, I thought I would contact Festool UK tech help to double check. They told me there was actually and end available, and because it had been miss-described, they would send one to me free of charge. At that point I started using the hose I was otherwise have going to return.
When the end arrived it was for a 36mm non tapered hose of the old style - impossible to fit on the new hose. I called Festool UK tech again, this time I was told there was no availableend for the tapered hose. They then queried which tools I wanted to use it with as to why I would want the bayonet features anyway? Well, for all the reasons you market it.
Anyhow, it turned out the reseller was correct all along. Thankfully they (powertool-supplies.co.uk) are a very helpful lot, and agreed to exchange the now used hose for a 36mm non tapered version with the bayonet end - yes, I did get them to check before sending!
Well over 3 weeks after I raised the issue, the Festool UK website is still listing it as a feature of that hose.

The bayonet system is great by the way with bayonet tools, but worse than the plain sleeve with non bayonet as it allows some air into the junction because of the bayonet "lumps" creating gaps onto a plain tube. What doesn't seem to exist that I can find is retrofit connectors for the tools to enable them to be upgraded. For example I have and older Circular saw TS 75 EQ, it is now shown on the Festool website with a Cleantec bayonet connector - (although oddly, unlike the hose that lists it as a feature when it isn't there, the saw description doesn't seem to mention it) - but there is no "accessory" / "spare" listed to upgrade.
So, summay, a worthwhile upgrade if the model you want is both snag free and has the bayonet end.
Stick with your old hose if the only change on the model you want is the snag free sleeve and its "bayonetless" and buy a much cheaper cable / hose guide for the ends of the cutting guides.
Cheers
Stephen.
