Hi all,

I am planing on ordering a cleantex ctl 26 next week.  I mainly use my tools on various hardwoods, softwoods & mdf so wasn't sure if i should be going for the ctm instead.  Its quite a price difference which i will stretch to if required.  Also, on the UK site they list a "ctl 26e SD" for 433 gbp + vat & a "ctl 26e GB" for 375 gbp + vat.  Anybody know what the difference is.

Thanks, Woodguy.

The only difference between the CTL and the CTM is that the CTM has a flow meter, which warns you when the airflow drops (ie tells you when the bag is full,or when there's a blockage). The filtering system is exactly the same.

WRT the SD/GB suffix, a quick look in the catalogue shows that the additional electric modules are both prefixed 'SD', so it could be a CTL26E GB with one of the extra modules already fitted. That's my best guess...

The CT26/36 brochure says:

Design approval: Dust class L
Degree of filtration, filter system: > 99%
Suitable for: Hazardous dust with max. concentration for occupational exposure > 1 mg/m3, and for NON-hazardous dust

Design approval - Dust class M
Degree of filtration, filter system: > 99.9 %
Suitable for: Hazardous dust with max. concentration for occupational exposure > 0.1 mg/m3, and wood dust

The CTM comes with a flow sensor, which sounds an alarm if the airflow drops below a certain level.

Despite the statement by Festool that the CTM is the machine to be used for "wood dust", the vast majority of woodworkers use the CTL version of the CT22/26/33/36/44/55 extractor. The filters and bags used in the CTL26 and CTM36 are the same, except that the longlife filter bag is not recommended for the CTM machine.

Apart from the flow sensor and longlife bag restriction, I am not aware of any physical difference between the two machines.

The subject has been discussed before - see the thread ctm and ctl extractors in u.k/europe for one such discussion.

Also, on the UK site they list a "ctl 26e SD" for 433 gbp + vat & a "ctl 26e GB" for 375 gbp + vat.  Anybody know what the difference is.

The above brochure also states:

With the modular plug-in system, every mobile dust extractor can be fitted with
additional modules according to your requirements: you can add a compressed
air module, a power socket with continuous current, a power socket with
automatic electronic switch-on/shut-off, or a module for connecting to a
Festool energy box.

It also lists the following accessories:

Socket module
Module SD CT 26/36
For CT/CTL/CTM 26/36; power socket with continuous current (not available in China)
496142

On/off socket module
Module SD E/A CT 26/36
For CT/CTL/CTM 26/36; power socket with automatic electronic switch-on/shut-off (not available in China)
496405

My guess is that the more expensive "ctl 26e SD" has an additional socket fitted, although I wouldn't like to say what type of socket it is.

Hope that helps a bit.

Forrest

PS. I see that jonny round boy has beaten me to it this time, with a rather more concise version of the above!  :D

Thanks both, i new this forum would sort it out in double quick time  ;)
I will be ordering the ctl 26 with the extra socket module tomorrow.

Cheers, Woodguy.

I'm curious...  Has anyone done a feature and design comparison of the CT22/33 vs the CT26/36 vacs?

Thanks,

Dan.

Thats the cleantex ordered.  The rep is giving the extra socket module free but charging me 19.95 gbp for the plastic "y" connector for the 2 hoses  :o
Ah well, i think i am still getting a good deal.  Will let you all know how it performs,

Woodguy.

congrats on the new vac purchase woodguy.
i was drooling over them yesterday in my local festool dealers shop!
20 quid for the anti static y connector is pretty good mate. i recently got one and paid AU$73. that was with discount!

i recommend the long life bag, they are expensive, but if you use it alot, you will recover the initial outlay of money.

regards, justin.

Cheers Justinmcf

I will use it every day & quite often with the of1400 to router stair stringers so i think the bags will fill up rather quickly.  The long-life bag will be a good buy.  The main reason for the purchase is i am using a Stayer vac at the moment & there is no controll for the suction therefore making the sanders quite jumpy due to too much suction.
Cant wait to get it now  :)

you will not be disappointed with the festool vacs. i use the ct-22 and ct-33. i just wish i had'nt wasted my time and money over the years on cheap and nasty vacs!

btw, i highly recommend making your own boom arm, i made a plywood base which attaches onto the vac garage and i used 60mm pvc which the electric lead and 36mm hose run through. mine is not worth showing, but there are some beauties on this site. try searching for "home made boom arm".

regards, justin.

I agree,I bought a cleantex recently after using others for several years.Wish I'd bought one years ago and saved on buying inferior gear...

I would strongly recommend using the 36mm hose and getting a mini cyclone so far I have generated over 100 liters  of chippings and wood dust and have less than 5% of my first CT22 bag full. My Mini CV06 Cyclone has already paid for itself.

Justin, that cvo6 cyclone sounds interisting. did you get yours in the uk ?  Also, i like the sound of making your own boom arm, I'm gona look into that.

Actually it was me not Justin. I got mine sent to Japan from the States then took it a check-in baggage to its home in Thailand.
Here it with its first vac 2 years ago

You will see it in the background with its CT22 from this summer

I will be making a boom arm, CT22, systainer, cyclone cart probably in the spring. The arm will be made from 50mm pipe.

Thats pretty cool, thanks for the pics.  I might look into getting the cyclone in the uk.
I got the cleantex yesterday but not had a chance to play with it yet.  Might take some pics of it when it is nice & new  ;)

Cheers, Woodguy

P.S - sorry for the mix up

Do you lose any suction or power with that long of a hose.  What type of hose are you using on the bright green one?

Not that I notice.

I do find that the drop from 36 mm to 27mm means that I have more chips escaping from the OF1400 so would like to add another 36mm hose or get my boom arm made so I can use the bigger hose directly with the tools

With the CT22 ETS150 DTS400 Rotex150 Domino and MFK700 there is no problem

Here is a Pic of the current connection from the CT22 to the cyclone

There 2 more at CT22 to Mini CV06 Cyclone

I have both an AS and a non AS 27mm hose. That one is the non AS version. They are regular hoses and plugit cables with a sheath and shrink to fit tube (not an original idea). The benefits are easy to understand.
