May I know the reason why the fence mounts independently on each side, rather than connecting to the plate in a manner that ensures the fence can slide precisely parallel to the direction of movement of material across the router?  I understand the independent fine adjustment, very good.  But it is really fussy to line up the thumbscrews with the obscured threaded holes on the deck below.  Even fussier to get the thing adjusted so it is parallel.  Seems so much simpler if the fence slid parallel.  I am sure I am missing something, but what?  Would it be a mistake to mount this in a pair of tracks on my Paulk table?

I wouldnt call it a mistake but there are many different options if you are mounting a fence in your Paulk MFT. If It were me I would make a fence it would be a straight fence and not a split fence. Beaware that it will not have the same dust collection as a CMS with the router module, but if you use a festool router and the duel extraction (connected to the fence and router) you would have pretty good extraction.

Router table fences do not need to be parallel to the work piece or the cutter.

Very true especially when using bits with bearings

So, what about mounting the Festool split fence to my Paulk workbench?  I would like your comments and suggestions please.

Flackmisteress, the only time you need a fence is for bits with out bearings. Bearing will guide the stock and prevent the stock from biting the stock (if that makes sense) Look at the video of the festool CMS. They will show a black cover that will allow you to gentley with control feed stock to te bit. Prior to that most router tables were sold with starting pins and still are.
Look at about 10:44 of the video
