CMS-GE Table not switching off

Hi,

I recently purchased a number of Festool components but had run into a little difficulty this evening.

I have the router table which I am using in conjunction with [url=http://www.amazon.co.uk/Festool-CT-17-GB-Cleantec/dp/B00FSCSMXC]Cleantec Dust Extractor and OF-1010-EQ router.

As intended I connected the router to the extractor, the table to the extractor and the extractor to the mains and all went well for about 3 hours.  However now the Off switch on the table will no longer keep the router turned off (if held it works but not if released), now the only way to turn off the router (save via the mains) is by turning the extractor off (i.e. out of the "Auto" position).  Unplugging everything and re-attaching all the cables results in the router remaining off the in the "Auto" position however once I turn the router on at the table again I can no longer turn it off with the table Off switch.

Although it may seem like an inconvenience to turn the router off at the extractor every time its not the end of the world, I'm more concerned by:

a) the reduction in safety by not having an easy switch to hit if something goes wrong, and
b) the fact that after less than 5 hours of mild use the machine no longer works as intended

Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be causing the issue?

Much obliged for your time

Sounds like a faulty switch in the router table.

I'd suggest you either contact your dealer or Festool service.  Assume you are in the UK given the link you mentioned.

The switch has a certain feature that when the mains power is lost, it automatically jumps back to the off position. This is a safety feature to make sure the tool in the table can't start by itself once mains power is restored.

Not sure how they make it work, but I'd guess a part inside the switch as to move under influence of an electromagnet. With your problem, one possible explanation is that that moving part has become stuck in some way.

But it's just a guess.

What I do know for sure, from your description, is that your switch is faulty, and you should not operate the table with it again, until it is fixed. Power tools are inherently dangerous, add a faulty switch to the mixture and your odds for an accident increase significantly.

Contact Festool directly for a repair.

Hi

Thank you both for replying, I was unsure as to whether it was a fault with the table or a fault with the extractor - I'll bring the table in to my local service agent next week I guess. Meanwhile I've no intention of losing a finger or any other parts so it will sadly have to remain unused.

Thanks again,

D
