I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a CMS but having trouble deciding between the GE or the VL.

I'm pretty sure I'll be wanting to make an upgrade in the future with the Incra LS Positioner.

So - the MFT/3 + CMS-VL will support the longer footprint of the Incra LS, but I just noticed that the MW1000 says it will work with the CMS.  Has anyone done the combo -- CMS-GE with MW1000 using the Incra LS where the two mate on the CMS' back long edge?

I am leaning to the CMS-VL setup, but like the idea of having a separate surface of a CMS+MW1000.

Hi,
I don’t have the Incra positioner. But, I have the other pieces.
I just wanted to let you know a few things:

- The GE with CMS OF and an optional use of UG wings comes in conflict because of the fences on the OF extends outside GE table, and therefore conflicts with the small fence on the UG wings.
- The VL table is wider (as MFT/3) so UG Wings are ok there.

The GE does only have the “V” groove profile, and not the secondary T-track below the “V” groove. This means when hooking on the MW1000 ext. table it will not lock in place because the plastic connector depends on the secondary T-track which are on MFT/3, VL and so on. So if you plan to use the MW1000 table with GE or any table saw from Festool you will need to figure a way to secure the table as it will only rest (it will be at the correct height though) in the “V” groove only, and it can easily tip off.

Thanks!  This is what I needed to know and firms up my decision to go with the VL.

You’re welcome!
I was pleasantly surprised with the VL. It adds to the use in imagination too, as you don’t really need to use a specific CMS module in it - get creative and see what tool or whatever you can fill that hole with. - I’m thinking recessed planer upside down, and maybe a belt sander as well. I’ve not had the time to do it, but “plans” and images are in my head  [big grin].

VB-CMS/CS50 can also be used, but is significantly narrower - to fit the long side of CMS-GE and CS 50 Precisio.

The GE is extremely light, compact and useful if you bring it along a lot, either as a professional or a home user for use at your cabin, other homes, friends and family.

I did the VL many years ago and did the incra + Precision Dogs plate. Love it!

Cheers. Bryan.
