CMS-GE with ts75 module

Hi All, just wondering if any one has a CMS-GE with a TS75/55 module?  I bought one but failed to get the fence for it. I am wondering if the angle stop off my MFT with the long extrusion would be a good fence for that application?  Cheers

The angle guide for the MFT and the CMS are identical except the CMS has a longer reach than the MFT.

I know, I was wondering if it would work as a parallel rip fence, clamped to the front of the table running parallel to the blade.

If you have 2 angle heads use one towards each end of the "fence".

Make sure you don't pinch the exit side.

In case you refer to the protractor head held fence (as in the original set as seen here):

I suggest to take a look at the #492095 LA-CS 50/CMS, it's way easier to setup to the dimenson you want (as of the fine adjustment) and has less slop/wiggle (since it clamps down on both ends to the CMS) than the protractor.

Not that cheap but still reasonably priced (for festool) and with the #493822 VB-CMS (that will continue the scale on the CMS) it's fine for accurate wider cuts (the table extension is also needed for wider cuts with the protractor held fence). IMHO worth it as as setup time to get to a certain dimension (and the possible errors doing it) is massively reduced, compared to the protractor.

I have one they are a bit of a pain to set up I finally got it cutting straight, but I had to use a full length extrusion to make it like a typical American style fence

NO, that is running the mitre gauge perpendicular to the blade (thought the fence is parallel).  I was wondering if you could run the mitre gauge off the front rail and have enough lateral rigidity to make a cut.

Get the rip fence. It's not great and it's sloppy when you take it across the extension table but it's nothing you can't live with!

Why not spend $400 and by a nice portable tablesaw like the DeWalt (smaller one, not the contractor's saw). It will far exceed the capability of your tracksaw and requires less than minute from plugin to cut. The Festool system is good in some cases, but definitely not this one. For slightly more than the cost of the CMS insert you will have larger capacity, significantly quicker setup, a much higher level of accuracy, and your tracksaw is still available for use. Even the crappiest tablesaw can exceed the usefulness of the module.

You should be able to easily unload your CMS TS/55/75 module on the FOG and there is always someone who only sees the system without considering the downsides (setup time, capacity and accuracy).

Being in the US, and finding a TS 75 module might be hard. Having set up my TS 75 in the module, I found it tedious squaring things up. The cut capacity is what’s good, and it has some power compared to TS 55 in a module. But, a compact, but good table saw is definitely worth a look. Metabo has a riving knife that can be pushed down for hidden cuts ie. The height and bevel adjustments will be far easier. If you have all the accessories for the CMS, as the side table, slider and so on, including the saw, a module could be it. I’ve tried mine with the CMS VL attached to a MFT/3, and it annoys me that the blade guard and riving knife stands proudly wiggling and in the way of having some extra flat surface over the table top. (You might just leave the onboard riving knife in situ, only locking it. A makeshift blade guard is advisable though. The one that comes with the insert is well, old.. and made to fit TS 55 module also, so it sits proud.

One thing though, combined with an MFT/3 you could get a fancy accurate fence system with the Incra system.. all on one surface.

Thank you for your reply.  I have the CMS GE Router Table Set and am really impressed with it.  Unfortunately its discontinued and the other modules were never available in the States.  I've been keeping an eye out for other modules and found one on ebay but it recently sold.  I can see some of the negatives to the CMS but I think it had a lot going for it.

A TS 75 module are much rarer than the TS 55 module. e-bay Germany and UK may be the best bet. Expect +/- €500. Since the 75 module is so rear it can easily go higher. Though the prices of CMS modules has gone up and down a lot. Now it doesn’t seem to move as fast.

I’ve had interest on my module (and saw), but if I were to sell it, I had to have either a HK 85 (preferably) or a similar Makita. .. but then I loose the potential of mounting it as a good capacity table saw, without further investment. That’s the beauty of it.. A good, but not great table saw, and a very good track saw in one package. The PS module is also actually a nice addition.

I have a CMS TS-75 module that I might be convinced to sell if someone is interested, and with the rip fence.  I bought it from the same gentleman that sold me the CMS-GE - I think he said he used the saw module once, and I have never used it (thought it would be nice to have but I’m mostly shop-based and use my Unisaw instead.  PM me if interested and I’ll try to get pictures of what I have.

I have a CMS TS-75 module that I might be convinced to sell if someone is interested, and with the rip fence.  I bought it from the same gentleman that sold me the CMS-GE - I think he said he used the saw module once, and I have never used it (thought it would be nice to have but I’m mostly shop-based and use my Unisaw instead.  PM me if interested and I’ll try to get pictures of what I have.
