CMS-OF insert into custom table?

FOG’ers,
I picked up the router insert for the CMS off Craigslist that I’m planning to use for my OF 1400.  I got CMS-OF (499015) which is just the aluminum plate to which the router mounts (and the fence and the hardware), but not the stand that the plate sits into.  I’m planning to insert it into my own custom bench top, as I’ve seen a few others do (for example:https://www.pinterest.com/pin/665406913665768369/).

I’m wondering if anyone has dimensions they could share for the cut out and mounting.  Specifically, it sounds like the preferred mounting to allow the hinge action of the plate is an 8mm aluminum rod (as I found here:https://www.festoolownersgroup.com/festool-tools-accessories/cms-plates/msg393201/#msg393201), but wondering how far down from the top that should be set.  Any specific dimensions would be helpful and likely save me some time experimenting!

Thanks,
Guy

Hi, Richard leon documents his journey on yt,3 or 4 vids, good luck .guy

The 8mm rod idea is close but I would not consider it solid enough for my liking. A few bars for support welded or tapped and screwed in would work. Could also switch the rod out for angle aluminum bar stock. Cutting a wedge of wood and putting it under the angle aluminum would give the insert the angle needed to install and remove it. You can machine the thickness and round over end after cutting it off some. It could be countersunk into the wood if need be. You might even be able to buy the actual 8mm rail from Festool for the CMS. Another option would be to just bend some plate but that will require a lot of pressure from some kind of a press brake.

The height for both rails could be made adjustable. Using a piece of angle iron or aluminum on the front could give you adjustability.
All measurements should be taken with your own measuring tools once you have the parts to work with.
