CMS question

Never thought I'd get the CMS but thanks to the tax cut I'm gonna have some disposable cash to spend so am  gonna treat myself and put it back into the economy  [big grin].

Can the CMS-GE be attached to the MFT like the CMS-VL? I like the standalone ability of the GE but wouldn't mind adding the extra stability if needed by attaching it to the MFT.

The website is not descriptive for that.  The catalog is much better.

The table is the same height as the MFT according to the catalog.

The GE set includes the 4 legged table and the router insert / lift.  Has the sliding table and adjustable fence.  Also an outfeed table.  Also the dual vacuum hose setup.

They were not designed to attach.

But it's simple easy to make yourself a bridge (that is stiff enough to hold them together) between the two: take a piece of plywood of the right thickness (and the right dimensions), some triangle stock matching the V-groove (on the MFT and CMS-GE), two embedded nuts to go in it, two knobs (with screw thread matching the nuts) and a piece of plywood to clamp the upper piece of plywood (aligned by the triangle pieces in the V-groove) to the lower against the bottom of the extrusion.

Quick and easy to build once you have the CMS-GE (and the OF plate )

I like the standalone ability of the GE but wouldn't mind adding the extra stability if needed by attaching it to the MFT.

I have the CMS-GE and trust me it is very stable on its own. When working with large materials I have used the MFT as an outrigger support table (even while using the sliding table) and often use the wings of the Kapex UG as infeed and outfeed tables for long timber.

Rob is spot on - the CMS is very stable and does not wobble like the MFT3. The MFT3 does make an excellent in-feed or out-feed table an does not need to be connected.

It is a system [big grin] but if ya want to connect th CMS to the MFT, maybe the MFT connectors might work. I havent tried it yet just thinking.

They won't Ron. The CMS GE has a different profile where it retains the V-groove but there are no T-slots like there are on the MFT/3 and MFT/3-VL so the connectors don't work.

don't think I need to connect to the mft anymore,

I'm just excited that I could use the mft as an in/outfeed table and a kapex extension on the other side for something really long if needed without having to setup roller stands.

Just a word of caution just in case you didn't think of it:  With router table operations in particular you need to watch out for not only heights but also surfaces in the same plane.  If you have a flat work area floor you are good, but if not you may have to make allowances.

If the floor isn’t too out of level, the adjustment on the wings is pretty simple. Just be careful if you move the CMS... you may need to re-level.

Glad that tax break will work out for at least one of us.

Thanks Garry, as I said I haven’t tried it but it’s good know. My CMS GE is away from my MFTs so I’d prolly never try it
