CMS Router Table (for OF1400) and Sliding table ST

Hi,

I am using the CMS router insert and Sliding table ST. I use the Sliding table ST for doing the "ends" of things - currently a sash window rail (Top & Bottom).

However, due to the construction of the Sliding table ST I notice their is a 2-3mm gap between the work piece and the router but - it kinda floats. Now, I have had to pack the Sliding table ST with 2mm shims to make it so this gap is even - as opposed to a mild angle.

I presumeth is a necessary evil ? It works fine, nice and smooth and all...

I've got to say, in hindsight, using the Sliding table ST does make this work REALLY smooth and easy... I've never really used it when I was using the CMS insert for the TS55, but in this scenario it comes up trumps...  Equally... it looks darn good...

My plasterer thought I was a wood working wizard... Taking the old roof rafters dropping them through a thicknesser to clean them up, using the Kapex to cut them to length (plus some extra for errors and snipe from the Makita) and then using the CMS & OF1400 to produce stiles....

Having the right tools does make things a lot easier... Bloody expensive...

The timber is lovely... At least 120 years old, not going to get any movement in these little bits of wood...

The sliding table is excellent for that sort of thing, and the sliding action is *so* smooth too!

The height of the sliding table relative to the main table can be altered using the two adjusting screws on the long rail that the table slides along. Access to the screws is via holes in the top of that rail, one of which is visible in the first photo.

In other words, you don't directly adjust the table up and down - you move the mounting rail instead.

Forrest,

Oh.... Thanks for that... Tomorrow morning, 7:00am, I know what I will be doing....

I've scanned my instruction manual for the sliding table - see particularly the "Height Adjustment" paragraph at the bottom right:

Is there a chance you could take a photo of the underneath of the CMS router module, showing how the router fits into it? In the past, some members wondered how easy it was to fit a non-Festool router, and a photo of the clamping mechanism would be useful for future queries.

Sure, I'll do that tom... err... later on today !! It's pretty easy to fit other routers i'd say, as it's a simple clamp mechanism, it's just the raising tool that might throw people...

There are some photos in this thread of the OF2200 in place under the CMS showing the clamping mechanism

thanks paul and forrest for clearing that issue up for me. i have just recently purchased my cms ts-75 and i found this very problem yesterday. there was a 2-3mm difference in the sliding table and the main table. i did read the manual, but i admit i missed that section about adjusting the screws. i thought i was going to have to live with this small problem, now i know i can fix it! happy days!

i took heaps of photos, and tried to start my own thread, but computers and me dont get on too well. it should be easy, it is a mac after all.......

thanks again for all the info, keep it coming!!!

regards, justin.

I've now readjusted my sliding table... You can change the clearance, angle... If you want to be really silly you can create a firring effect by having a difference of table clearance !!!

Works a treat....

Have to say, I'd be more likely to use a TS75 in a CMS than on it's own... NO NO NO - I can't !!!

I recently got the MFT/3-VL Multifunction Table CMS Extension to add to my MFT3. Where looking for a sliding table to use with it, but I'm a bit confused. Found two different Festool numbers for this, and don't know which one to get.

492100 and 931346 are the number according to this page.

Any help would be appreciated  :)

I think Axminster has goofed with the Festool part numbers.

According to the EKat 492100 is the sliding table but 931346 doesn't seem to exist.

What Axminster has described as the CMS-VB is the extension table, not sliding table, but that has the code number 495530 and/or 493822 not 931346. Clear as mud  [blink]

Dunno whether they ship to Norway but PowerTool World is a bit cheaper. I've used him before and he was OK with stuff in stock, a bit crap with special orders. Just thought I'd offer an alternative.

You need to change the angle of the sliding table with the screws under it to be in the same angle as the module. By playing around with the ST height and angle adjustments you should be able to get it exactly spot on. Without shimming.

I just got the LA fence for the cms that im using with the ts75 insert and the fence is really really nice. As you can guess by the price. I got mine from powertools.co.uk, found it there the cheapest in Europe. If you dont already have it i suggest you get it at some point.

Thanks for the clarification ;) Yes, PowerTool World do ship to Norway, but the cost is from £95 to £235 so in principle they don't  [mad]

Is the sliding table different on the CS50 vs CS70? Will the unit for the CS50 fit the CMS-VL table? The size of the table is the same as the CS70, since the 488062 Ripping-Cut Fence CS 70 LA does fit. Then I'm not sure if the sliding table for the CS50 will fit. Anyone tried it?
