CMS Router

I just added a USA CMS router system to my FESTOOL stuff.

Now I need to purchase a router motor to add and live in the table. I now have my 1010 installed. I will not be switching the inserts out. I will be switching the slide and tables from my ts75 cms system to the cms router table. The Cms i got came with the green ring and instructions on installing the 2200. I also have  a CMS with the complete ts75 saw sytem installed.

So any comments on installing the 1400 or the 2200?

Don’t have the 2200 but the 1400 works very well.

I have a 2200 but have yet to install in the CMS as the 1400 has worked quite nicely so far.  I also like the 2200 for freehand work because of its design.  However, I have yet to run any large bits in the CMS with the 1400 as yet, but will be trying soon when I use it to shape a door center-panel.  Hope it all works. 

I'd buy a shaper if I made more doors, but cannot justify the cost (or space) at this time.  Since Festool doesn't endorse using the 2200 in the CMS in N America, I would probably go the shaper route if the 1400 cannot handle the larger bits.

I have used both the 1400 and 2200 in the table. It is apparant that it is designed for the 2200 with modifications for the 1400. Both work well but the 2200 is slightly easier to install and obviously more powerful.

Actually I must have misspoken because in the US of A the 2200 will not work in the table ( despite the fact that the table come with everything you need to install it except instructions). Doing so will void the warranty on either the table or the router, not sure which or both.

Though I dont have my 2200 installed in my CMS it installed the same way as the 1400 other than you use the green ring and you dont use the metal tab that screws on to the threaded shaft that raises ad lowers the router. Use use the large end of the anti rotation device.

Interesting that you are putting the OF2200 in and taking the OF1400 out - I did the opposite not long ago.

I really like the ergonomics of the OF2200 and, despite its weight, I find it easy to use. The OF1400 has an awkward dust collection point compared to the OF2200 but, in the CMS, the OF1400 works really well dust wise.

In case anyone is alarmed by this let me just say that I had my OF2200 in my CMS unit for nearly 4 years with no issues whatsoever. I have only made the switch to the OF1400 in my CMS as it gives me the better router for dust collection in my hand (OF 2200) and a perfectly good solution in my CMS (the OF1400).

From what I've been able to gather while researching this issue as it has been discussed elsewhere on this forum (like here), the issue with using the OF2200 mounted in the 120V version of the CMS has to to with some sort of issue between the power requirements of the OF2200 and the power supplied via the integrated table-mounted on/off switch. Follow the above link and have a careful read to learn more.

when I lived in the UK for 4 years, I had my US 2200 in my US CMS powered using a tranny with no issues.

Thanks for highlighting an old thread of mine Sparktrician  [big grin] I have been using a 110v OF2200 in that CMS unit for 7 years with no problems both on site and in various workshops. The OF2200 is the only Festool router I own and the Dewalt version of the old Elu 177e and a crappy Freud 1/4 " jobby that I bought second hand have been used less than six times in all that time.
My advice to anyone is to invest in the CMS plus OF2200 set up and the OF2200 kit box and make a jig for circle cutting from this thread and take a look at another thread I posted here
The system is greater than I imagined.

Anyone got one of these on their cms? Just bought one and this trigger clip came attached to the CMS. Seems odd as I've got one on the ts55r plate anyway.

In the States we cant mount a TS 55/75 in our CMS. But If I had one mounted it wouldnt have a clip like that, well sort of. it would have the black clip but it would attach to the saw by a lanyard. That is if I had one in m CMS

Hi Ron all good here, we never moved in the end staying up here until the kids leave home. I can live by the sea when I'm retired I suppose lol.

Yeah I've got that lanyard too that's why I was surprised to see a second one already attached to the CMS unit.

Im getting settled in finally. Got through almost all the boxes. I honestly dont know if we got everything. But the most important stuff came through my beer, beer steins and tools and beer mugs :>D. Still getting my shop set up though. Im building cabinets to set under my MFTs making work centers out of them. Ill put up some photos when I get finished in 2 years or so :>D
