Hey everyone,

I have had a few posts hinting around at some shop organization and finished this up this weekend.

I have a CMS-VL and wanted a place to put all of my bits and pieces. I made this out of Dynasty Birch plywood and it was great for this effort... Good enough, but not great (thin veneer, more than a few voids).  I started by getting the parts cut then on to routing out some dados in the sides. OF 1400 made quick work of this. Just a quick note, if you have the KM-1 it makes for easy work here. I also used my Precision Dogs Parallel Guides and the combo worked great!

I had some hardwood runners I put in for the sliding shelves so made sure they were going to fit right!

I used 6mm dominos throughout and rabbets for all of the panels. Since this was a shop cabinet, I cut the rabbets, put it all together (dry) and then cut the dominos 30mm deep.

Glued it up, including the dominos

Installed the hardwood runners, flush cut the dominos, and sanded it all up.  Ready to install!

At first I didn't think I was going to make a drawer, but after I put in a bunch of my crap, I changed my mind. I had a few feet of 1x6 poplar so I cut it all up for some half blind dovetails.

I send my Incra LS to do this and it works very well. If you have an LS, you know what I am talking about!

Since I was using my dovetail bits, they were getting a bit of a workout... So I had to have lil' Bill help me keep things clean.

It came out really well but when I glued and clamped it, the softness of the poplar + the half blind dovetails + plus me clamping caused the drawer to "shrink" by about ⅛".

A little bit of sanding and all came out well.

Onto the drawer front!

I wanted to make a front for this and expand my skills a bit so I went for an end grain plywood look. I had another thread on this but it came out great!  I love the final look.

In process...

Cut a sliding dovetail for a piece of hardwood to be the handle.

Some trimming, sanding, poly and such...

I got a (very short) 12" soft close slide from KV and installed it, the box and front. Glides very well and is much better then the open front.

Now I want to put some foam in!!

Forgot to mention one key thing...

I made this to organize the 1400 plate, plus other plates should they ever come here.  [wink]

I also have made some simple MDF sheets to act as temp shelves until that happens.  I like the cabinet a lot, it also has all of my CMS items in one handy location whereas before it was scattered in various drawers, cabinets and on the table a lot.

Very happy with my organization here in the past few weeks.

Thanks for looking...

Cheers.  Bryan.

beautifully done man.  i like your design thinking "outside the box" for the stuff you built outside the box

Nice informative post on making your CMS shop cabinet. Your shop has atmosphere..

Thanks for showing and explaining the how to of it!

Anytime!

I also have a SketchUp of it if anyone wants the dimensions or any other features.  It does have specifics around the height of the OF 1400 unit.  I know that most of the European folks can take advantage of the TS 75 or 55 plate as well as the PS plate for the Trion/Carvex so I took those dimensions into the design as well.  It will work with all inserts... each with the tools in them.

Cheers.  Bryan.

I'm going to get the CMS GE with the OF 2200 router, TS 75 insert, and probably the Beltsander and Jigsaw inserts later on..

I'd like the SketchUp it is a project I'll end up doing at some point..

Well done! A slick job nicely documented.

Thanks!

It is not quite the videos you produce ;^)

I do what I can... Just need access to more wood!

Cheers. Bryan.

Very nice!
Specially love the drawer end grain front

Thanks... me too!  I might incorporate it into other drawers in my shop and elsewhere!  Simple but time consuming.

Cheers.  Bryan.

I'm planning a similar storage unit for my CMS & Incra kit, so if you don't mind sharing I would love to receive a copy of the SketchUp plan you mentioned.

Beat me to it by probably about two years looking at my current backlog of honey-do projects, but it doesn't hurt having a ready plan handy if time magically appears from nowhere  [tongue]

I will post it up later this evening.

Very nice execution. I don't know where you find the time to do all this..... I will download the sketchup model myself. Thx for sharing....
