CMS suggestions (some new ones, I hope)

Here are a few suggestions for the CMS:

Apply low friction tape to bottom of fence to extend service life of top.

Include "bent" wrenches to ease bit install/removal.

Add a 90 degree hose adapter to fence hose for those of us who work in very small shops.

Add a button to the bottom of your routers so the ratcheting mechanism can be enabled/disabled without reaching under the router table. This will also require a monification to the CMS top, of course.

Add speed control accessible through the CMS top.

Offer optional bracket so users can move power switch to location above and behing the table. This will help users who would like to install an infeed table.

Add knob to fence that moves both sides in or out the same distance.

"Stripped"/lower cost versions of OF 1400 & 2200 routers that woulld only work in CMS.

I know you've heard these before...

Offer an OF 2200 approved switch.

Update fence so it's self squaring.

Update fence so it has a micro adjust.

Cheers,

Paul

I think most people agree that the fence on the CMS seriously falls down in terms of adjustment - especially when compared to the routers.  You can do 1/10 mm adjustments easily and repeatably, but good luck doing that with the fence.  Need to move it back to where it was before?  Good luck getting it back exactly...

That's why there's so much interest in mods to get the incra to work with it.

I don't like how you have to completely remove the fence to change router bits. I can see the threads wearing out.

Agreed!  I think the CMS is an overall awesome product but agree wholeheartedly. I liked the fence for basic routing, but I needed to do a lot of tapping to get it in place. I had to do that with my old router table and hated it.

I love my setup now!  Incra LS mounted on a Precision Plate, mounted on my MFT and sliding over to my CMS router allows me a ton of flexibility.

My only other gripe is that we can't get the other CMS modules in the US. :(

Id like festool to sell blank CMS plates to mount other tools to the CMS table. Say to mount a Kreg jig for example or maybe a disk sander etc

What if someone else sold one?  I have often thought about getting some milled for those types of things.

I agree that the CMS router system is awesome tool but some changes would significantly improve satisfied experiences. I would like to see a provision to allow the ratcheting mechanism being activated from above the table. The current system is very difficult to activate reaching under the table. In addition, the location of the off/on switch is difficult to use especially when the sliding table is in the far right location. Finally, it would be more convenient if a modification could be made to the fence to allow bits and hole discs to be added and removed without removing one of the fence mounting bolts.

Thanks!
Roger

They sort of do, albeit as a spare part. The CMS-VB extension table has a removable blank insert that is the same size (EDIT: as noted below, it's not actually the same size unfortunately) as the inserts for the saw, router, jigsaw and sander. You won't like the price though...

It might get some interest. It definitely would increase the versatility of the CMS

They are not the same size. The width is the same but the length isn`t. The blank insert that comes with the CMS-VB is a little bit shorter. ( normal CMS-insert 578mm, CMS-VB blank insert 566mm ). Anyway GarryMartin is correct that you can use the blank insert with the CMS-table but you might have to make somekind of extra insert to compensate the gap that the shorter blank insert leaves.

Well if you are planning on making a hole in the insert plate anyway you might be able to get away with a standard CMS-PS insert with its rather small rectangular hole in it (not totally centered if I recall correctly) and just cut around it to fit your modification idea or if a round hole in the centre would suit as a better starting point go for a CMS-OF sparepart to use as a starting point.
