I'm just going to kick this off ... please drag as many Australian FOGgers and any satellites you can into the thinking.

I'd like to get behind us producing something we can exploit locally that offers MFT style benefits, with build your on bench/table flexibility.

What we want is:

A show of interest
Suggestions on CNC facilities and raw material providers
Preferred sizes
Anything else useful

C'mon people [smile]

Plyboard distributors in Dandenong sell all the materials (3600 x 1800) is the largest MDF sheet they sell, and they have several CNC's to produce them.

[member=20220]Mr_Mod[/member] are you connected or should I just reach out for us ?

I have a cash account with them, which would give us discount. I was thinking of getting some made up that would be 600mm wide and just longer than the 2000mm MFT/3 extrusion as my new work benches.
Common size sheets are;
1200 X 2400
1200 x 2700
1200 x 3600
1800 x 3600

I am not sure of the maximum size that can be placed on their cnc, but i know 1200 x 2400 can.

If we are going to do a group lot then i suggest maximising the sizes to fit the sheet goods size.

I'm interested. Haven't thought through exactly what size I'd need but perhaps a half standard sheet (1,200 x 1,200). I'm on the Mornington Peninsula so Dandenong works for me.

Sounds like there's a good demand in VIC .. obviously this stuff is not worth interstate shipping.

As I've been advised by one of our brothers .. setup and run costs can be expensive and will obviously vary, so banding together in a local area and getting a bigger bang for the setup costs makes sense.

The local fellow wanted a 1000+$ to do a 1220x2440...

(I'll use a router or a DD40 with one bit removed, and skip 3 holes.)
Or take a road trip if "the price is right".

[member=11196]Peter Parfitt[/member] Parf Guide System is probably ~$300+ AUD once you get it here (and I'd be worried that the long bits could suffer damage) .. but shipping for a big lump of MDF interstate in Oz won't be nice either.

Going the CNC path is only worth it if there's enough people banding together at the same time and close by to offset the CNC setup and run costs.

I'd be interested.  A few years ago I had company in St Marys (NSW) do a CNC job in MDF.  They were very professional.

[member=13058]Kev[/member] you could try [member=38970]thylaxene[/member]  (see reply 43 in this threadhttp://festoolownersgroup.com/festo...parf-guide-system-videos/msg448611/#msg448611) or [member=42735]DB10[/member] elsewhere in the same thread to see how much they paid for shipping etc.

Don't forget that for overseas orders (outside of Europe) you will save the 20% VAT before you even start.

Peter

Hi [member=11196]Peter Parfitt[/member]

I'll shoot you a PM .. to much detail to go into explanations in this thread.

Hi Kev,

Did you see the one's that were being sold on gumtree recently.
http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/stan...e-mft-site-tops-festool-compatible/1117521412

The ad is finished now, but I got the impression it's the same people who are doing the Ausdogs which are for sale on ebay

[member=25337]ggc[/member] I hadn't .. I'm deffo not trying to re-invent the wheel. Someone should link that guy into the FOG and the Aussie threads. The Ausdog guy is only a couple of suburbs away from me (Roseville by his Ebay address).
