As I promised, I'll fill in the Dutch terms to my knowledge:

Window frame:  raamkozijn
Window sash: raam
Window: venster    Note: though not technically correct, in most cases "raam" is used as a substitute.

Door jamb: deurkozijn ( If I understood it correctly - thats where the pictures come in handy .... )

Newel: (hoofd-) baluster.  Sometimes called hoofdpost or trappost

Ofcourse it's still rather useless in this form, but I suspect there might be something VERY useful sprouting from this...

Raam to me means just Window so  dont you have a proper name for a sash type of window because its a special type of window not standard windows most people have?!?!

Its funny because doesnt  hoofd and Hoofdpost just mean HEAD and HEADpost directly tanslated. I might be wrong I havnt lived in Holland for 10 years now.

I remember still that in Holland you call human Heads  Hoofd  but Animals Heads are called kop not hoofd but horses (or in the dutch paard) is the only animal you call their heads hoofd and same with hands and feet isnt it?!?!? benen (legs) for Humans and Horses and Poten (feet) for all other animals.

I always thought it was funny how the Dutch call horses body parts the same as human body parts.  I could understand it if was a monkey.

Sorry I missed what Mettes said he said about Sash was called raam vluegel that also in dutch or havent the dutch got a word for sash.

I always think the  I LOVE YOU is strange in dutch. People in England ask me how to say it in dutch sometimes also the usual whats a good swear word in dutch mate.

Ik houw van jouw  directly translated  it =  I love from you. Makes no sense in English but it doesn't really dutch I think when I think about it but if you dont say the van(from) then it sounds stupid so just seems like its just bin put in to make it sound right not to make it right..
