Consumables

Hi guys,
You may have seen a rant I had last week concerning consumables in the contact Festool section.  Well...

I've been asked by a local retailer to help assist in putting together a realistic list of accessories and consumables of stock in their stores.  "Realistic" meaning items that through poor planning or bad luck, we need NOW. Saw blades, sand paper, etc.  Nothing too exotic, just day to day basics that we all need from time to time.  I'm suggesting things that are Festool specific.  Centrotec drill bits, for example.

I need your input, specifically Domino and router users.  I haven't hit that part of lineup yet, and I don't want to miss anything.  Keep in mind this is not a "wish list"  but a "get me through a crisis list"

Thanks, Dan

EDIT:  I'll post my/our final list for our "brick and mortar store" friends everywhere.

Dan,

I think that a lot of this will depend on the tools you have and what you will be doing with them.  However, it turns out that I just placed an order that includes a lot of abrasives.  I tweaked it a little, but here's a list that I put together including what I have.  Is it reasonable?  I don't know, but I think so.  I hope this helps.

Regards,

Dan.

Dan the only thing I might need in a pinch for the Domino are tenons and for a router maybe a metric size bit. I don't think a dealer is likely to carry Festool bits so maybe the accessories like the edge guide and guide rail adapter. That way someone in a pinch can get one or buy when making a router purchase.

Dan

I am not one to rant and then not give suggestions.

1.The edge guides and the par. guides for the routers.
2.because of the size of the store i would love to see them carry a few the festool router bits.  especially the ro bits to make your own dominos since we have no other place to buy metric ro
3.at least one typ of abr. in each grit for the sanders they carry. Meaning that it would be nice for them to carry all different types of abrassives, but at least carry one type of 120,150....and for them go up to a higher grit like at least 400
4.I think that they could also have a wider range of tools.  I was told that they stock all the tools that they have sold.  however they don't have things like the 1010 router or the ets 150 series sanders to just name two.
5. ct bags sometimes they have the disposable and sometimes not. they always seem to have the reusable.

Of course there are other things that I would like to see but i think if they had those they would be in pretty good shape.

I was in the store yesterday and would have purchased a router bit or two if they had them in stock.

I am glad they called you and hope some of this might have helped.

I have gone to the local Woodcraft wanting to buy sandpaper but they never seem to have the particular grit/type I'm looking for.  Also frustrated looking for router bits and copy rings.  Would definitely have bought them on the spot, but had to order from Bob and wait a week.  Hey Uncle Bob, would you consider moving to New Mexico - no mosquitoes, no leaves to rake, great food!!

This is a good point: I've never even seen a Festool router bit. I've heard good things about them, and I'd probably buy them over other bits if I could look at them. I'm just a bit (no pun intended) uncomfortable buying bits unseen.

Other things they should stock (and probably do) are splinter guards, rubber strips for under the guide rails, jigsaw blades (though I cannot be more specific about which ones), TS panther and universal blades, hard and soft pads for the RO150 and 125, maybe edge guards for the RO150 and 125, and whatever part it is on the Domino that people have said is flimsy and breaks.

Hi,

  CT bags.

The standard top mount dust hood for the OF1400.

    Guide Rail Splinter strips.

Metric screws that fit Festool stuff.

The store would need to carry a LOT of sandpaper to cover every possible grit and sander combination.  There is a huge store here in town that does a lot of Festool business and even they don't carry (in-store) every single grit combination.  I think the in-store stock will depend on who is buying the equipment.  For example, here in the Pac NW there are a lot of boat builders so the lower grits will be needed a lot more than general cabinetry work.

The things that I've had to run out and get "immediately":
- guide rail splinter strips
- TS55 splinter guard (the green thing that screws into the saw)
- new blade (universal-only would be OK... just rip at a slower feed rate)
- Dominos
- extra soft pad for my ETS sander
- Lambswool bonnet for the Rotex

I could also see a plug-it power cord being on the list (someone saws through their power cord, etc.).
