Conturo Discontinued? - Merged Thread

I went to purchase a Conturo today with the accessories kit and the table, and the guy at Lee Valley said, "congratulations, you're getting our last one, we received news from Festool that the Conturo is being discontinued." Red flag went up, I asked why would Festool discontinue it, and he said he didn't know, but said they will keep supplying dealers with glue and parts. I cancelled the sale and left until I could find out more. I have been apprehensive about buying this machine. Anyone have intel on this?

You should have had to opposite reaction.  It's a great machine and it looks like most places have already sold out.  Everyone who has borrowed mine has ended up buying their own
 
If the Conturo such a great machine, as you say, I'd like to know why Festool is discontinuing it. Maybe a new improved version coming? Maybe too many issues with the current model?
 
It’s a specialist machine aimed at meeting a highly specific set of needs for a highly specific type of work - it’s not a product like the TS55 which has virtually universal appeal. Maybe they just weren’t selling enough to make it worth keeping in the range?

They have been discontinuing a lot of stuff that sold in very low numbers.
The thing to use the HL 850 upside down, the Surfix, the Duplex.

I think below X amount of sales, some beancounter will say it has to go.
 
Don't forget the Vac SYS.  That was another tool that was worth it's weight in gold. 

With all the supply chain issues currently a lot of companies are focusing on their bread and butter products and no longer producing low production items.  Probably either because of limited resources or increased costs making the lower volume items no longer feasible.

I wouldn't be surprised if Festool started producing the Vac Sys and Conturo again in 5-6 years once things start returning to normal

That was the SE HL planer bench stand and add to that group the RAS 115, BS 75, RS 2/200, BS 105, RAS 180 and the Rustofix.
 
Given that Festool is a brand that is aiming mainly at pro’s it probably means that the pro’s have switched to a product that does the same cheaper or better - or both.
There’s also trends that shifts, meaning specialists tools stall in sales.

The BS 75 isn't discontinued !? Maybe only in 110V?
 
It's still on the NL and DE website.

It even got refreshed from Systainer Maxi to Sys3 XXL 237
 
Man, I love my conturo being small shop the biggest advantage is not having a glue pot to deal with.  I love the ability to switch glue colors and just turn it off and store in a systainer till next time.  I would loooooove to get that mafell edgebander but it was 10k pre covid.  Scared to think what it is now... The conturo and festool sanders are my favorite things they make.  I didnt really care about the vac sys going away but the conturo saddens me.
 
Also the Festool CMS router table and the DX93 Delta head detail sander also discontinued. Unfortunate as many of these tools were some of Fetool's best tools in my opinion.

Sales on DX93 were ridiculously low, especially after the RO 90 came out.
 
So I they gonna kill the MFK 700 too? Why bother anymore as it is quite the companion to the conturo.

Why?  The Conturo is only one method of attaching edge banding.  The MFK 700 should work well with any edge banding, not just the Conturo.

Surprisingly not terrible if you could get one shipped from Germany? 8,246.70 € minus 19% VAT = $7,075.04 US + shipping. 2x the price of a Conturo but no hot melt glue at all to deal with.

Not sure whats involved in getting one from Germany but I called Timberwolf pre covid and spoke to someone there and it was over 10k but under 11k without the table. I cant remember exactly how much but it was between 10 and 11.  I tried to find the email they sent but no luck.  If I could get one for under 8k that would be very enticing.  However, its going to need to wait a bit since I just made another sizable tool purchase and dont want to see the wifes head pop off.
