so if a tool manufacturer, not Festool in this case, sends you a tool you didn't ask for not once, not twice but three different times, at what point should you quit sending it back?  I'm not naming names but this company has sent me a very expensive tool (thousands of dollars) out of the blue as I mentioned 3 times. I own this tool already and that's how they got me in their system but what I purchased originally was through a dealer, not direct. The law is pretty clear on this... anything a company sends you without your authorization is not subject to being returned other than an ethical responsibility. I have told them to stop doing it but at some point my ethical standards are going to be exceeded if they keep sending them to me.  I could finance a whole lotta Festool with the money I could make selling them.

I would call the company and speak with a human before cashing in on the free tools.  If it's happening to you, it might be happening to others as well, and whoever runs the company needs to know there is a problem (for them).  If you are just returning the tools, the reason for the return might not be registering with the company that you didn't order it.

I agree with MikeGE. Contact the management.

I did.  They said they had a major screw up in the fulfillment department and have taken steps to fix it.  I hope so.  It's a pain in the six to have to keep going back to the UPS store to return them.

Make them send a call tag and provide UPS pickup at your location.
You should not have to lug a box to UPS for them!

I believe this is correct only when said item is sent via the USPS .  I don’t think the protection extends to items conveyed via private carriers - UPS in this instance.

I read something on the FTC website about it.  Nothing was specifically mentioned about a common carrier.  However, it did say a company cannot send you something without you asking and expect payment.  FTC guidance It did say the ethical thing to do was to return the item but one was under no legal obligation to do so.  Of course, they are going back.

Of course companies can't just send stuff to people and make them pay for it. That's ridiculous!  Return it fine, but then the company needs to foot the cost, and time effort etc to get it back.  Make them pick it up at your location.

Depending on the carrier you can send back an unopened by simply requesting it to be returned, without paying return postage. Now if only Festool would send me a Kapex out of the blue. lol

UPDATE.  As it turns out, my local Rockler store was supposed to get those units. I had spoken to them about what happened and they did some investigating and somehow my name got mixed up with theirs.  I got a call from someone pretty high up at the company thanking me for returning them and he said some swag was coming my way.  Nice ending.
