Looking to use the Domino XL to attach style and rails for some entry doors I am constructing. The doors will have several glass panels inset between rails. In conjunction with the Domino's I am looking to use a cope and stick construction method. Unlike panel doors one side will have a rebate/rabbet to accept the glass and 1/2"(13mm) stop bead. Only one problem. I have never used cope and stick method before! The doors are almost 2" thick(45mm). Any suggestions regarding router bits for router table and method would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Finding a cope and stick router bit set for doors shouldn't be a problem, like these Freud bits on Amazon.  With this type of bits set you don't need the Domino since these will cut a long tenon.  You can insert the glass as you construct the door or mill your own rebate/rabbet so the glass is easily removable.

Thanks Brice,
The doors are over 7 1/2' tall x 4' wide (pivot door). Sorry I should have explained in more detail. As such the doors will be quite heavy and there will be a fair bit of pressure on the joints where the rails meet the style.

Although the application is for a door I think a window sash router bit (matched) is what I am looking for to suit 1 3/4"(45mm) stock. Not sure who supply them and if anyone would care to share there experiences using one it would be very much appreciated.

Cheers

As Brice has noted above, Freud among others make sash router bit sets that will accomplish what you want to do. If you could share a drawing of what you are trying to accomplish we might be able to help you.

I will probably go with your option Brice but with the round over option as the profile. The Glass will be required to be serviceable after installation so I think I will cut one side of the round over profile off with the table saw and re-use as the stop bead after the glass has been installed. Not sure if I will use the long tenon option as I think the Domino XL will be a lot quicker. For those reading this thread Amazon won't deliver to Australia but the Feud router bits are also available on Ebay. As I am writing this I have just noticed Tim has posted a response. I will post a ROUGH sketch shortly.

Hi Tim,
Who would you suggest as other options for routing bits?

Amana, Whiteside, Lee Valley...there are many. Unless you have a custom profile made, you will find that most of the profiles are very similar so it's a question of what suppliers carry which brand in your country.
Freud make good router bits and they have worldwide distribution at least as far as I can tell.

I don't know the Australian tool market so I don't know which dealers carry which brands down there and there may be a local brand that is as good or better than Freud.
Maybe one of the FOG's Australian members will be able to help you with sourcing a good retailer in your area.
Tim

Amana, Whiteside and Lee Valley did not have stile & rail router bits for 1 3/4" doors although CMT in Australia did. The distributor here Carbatec does not have the part number listed so Freud it is!

cheers
