My new midi runs through batteries and I use it off and on in very short increments. So today I decided to charge them fully and just let the dust extractor run until the batteries die. I put my stop watch on my phone and the batteries completely died at 14:39. Honestly that was a bit of a disappointment. The track saw batteries have been great and I have used those quite a bit. Is this run time for the extractor normal? Oh, and I might add I did have it on high. Yes I know I can turn it down but still I feel the batteries should do better.

Well, at full power Festool lists the 5.2 packs as providing 16 minutes *) ... so you are in line with that.

That performance is not free ...

Try to play with the power setting, most of the time you really do not *need* full power. Especially with the D27 hose the vac has more power than the hose can handle so you are just wasting the energy right there.

Secondly, the CTC series vacs really do call for a pair of 8.0 packs.

As for the comparison with the saw ...
- the vac runs a few seconds after the cut
- the vac runs all the time at full power (relative to the setting) while the saw takes almost no power when not cutting

These two combined mean that fully charged 8.0 packs will last about as long as a TSC will last with two full 4.0 packs. Assuming the vac is run at full power and the saw is not left running "doing nothing" before the cut (with the vac cleaning the room air in the process) ..

*) ideal conditions, aka new packs and clean/empty filters/bags

Ya the battery life is abysmal, and the performance you are getting is roughly the same as what I’ve gotten with mine. It’s still found a place in my arsenal though it doesn’t offer comparable performance (lower suction, abysmal runtime)
