CPO Festool Problems?

Warner, I know what you mean but it's not about whether the tool is going to get scratched- of course it is if it is used- but if it comes with scratches it raises doubts as to how the tool was handled before you got it.

Richard.

Nobody wants to buy a "pre-scratched" tool, especially for $500.  Cars get scratched at some point, but we won't go to the dealership and purchase a new car at full price and accept one with scratches.  We ask them to fix them or discount it, and in many cases, both.

For myself, as a hobbiest, my Festools get treated with great care - and get used. Having a new looking tool really pays off (pun intended) when selling later to upgrade to the latest model. I had a Rotex - ealrly model - arrive with lots of scuff marks. Was not real happy but Uncle Bob took care of me. Most of my tools arrived perfectly but a few came scuffed from parts and foam during shipping. Yes, would like to see the tools in a plastic bag or such. For you pros, not an issue as the tools see rough use but for hobbiests, there are benefits to keeping the tools as new looking as possible.

So how many of you were  [scared] when you saw how Dan treats $1200, of high end tools in a sys4
top-storage-on-t15-systainer

TS55 $500
Trion $310
coping foot $40
Multimaster $250
Mini  belt $100

This is The constant (rarely spoken of) tension between hobbyists and pro's  How we (professionals) treat our tools Is an abomination to many.  and We shake our head at the length some go to keep theirs new,  which I do with my own hobbies [wink].

I am not saying this to offend, rather to offer insight, to others views.

Craig

Notice that he has SCREWED his systainers together.

The marks look like the ones I have on a new RTS sander I purchased. They are from the systainer. Similar thing happened with a Dewalt cordless drill I purchased last year. The yellow drill had black scuff marks from the top of the blow-molded case. Things get bounced around quite a bit during shipping.

Along the same lines it seems that every Festool I have ever bought has had a split or broken systainer insert. My TS55 had one so I asked for another and my recent purchase OF1010 was split badly too. Must be where they are shipped from Germany. I had the OF1010 replaced as the router was defective but even the replacement turned up with a broken insert so I will just live with it I cant keep getting insert replacements  :(

No duties for canadian on most if not all festool tools

5% GST on commercial imports that's it !

Import 1000$ and you save at least 300$
Import 3000$ and you save at least 900$... that's worth 2 hours of my time and I refill my gas tank in the states.. it usually pays most of the fuel..

Alex

PS : festool tools are near 25% more in canada after taking into account the current exchange rate and applicable taxes.

why be so bothered over a few scratches on a drill? That box full of tools is how i would expect a pro to keep em as i keep my stuff like that because have 4 boxes for 4 tools take longer to get to the job and takes up more room on a job. As for screwing a few systainers together, whatever works best for that person.

For those who are wondering where the photographs of the scratched tools are, they can be seen in the (now locked and closed) thread in the Ask Festool board.

It's a little hard to see in the picture but there is ware on the label/sticker on the underside of the lid and the battery from rubbing during transit. This picture is of the drill when it was new. I got two T15s and both arrived this way so I'm thinking this is fairly common.

I JUST PLACED MY FIRST ORDER WITH THEM TODAY FOR SOME JET AND FESTOOL STUFF! YOU GUYS ARE SCARING ME!!! [crying] [scared]

You should be fine.... with a caveat

I have ordered both Jet and Festool from them arrived new...

But here is my caveat for you.... the delays... They always say products are in stock then a few days later they tell you its backordered...two weeks later they tell you its even longer wait or it will have to be drop shipped from Festool because they don't stock it or some other excuse.

Do what I did. Cancel your festool order with them and call Bob Marino. He will take very good care of you.

EDIT: CPOFestool just comped me a systainer 4. A nice gesture.

Kim,

Thanks for the advice, fortunately I checked before ordering and all items were in stock...or so they said!

Richard.

Hi,

I just received a couple of items from CPO Festool, the guide stop for the OF 1400 router #492601 and the edge guide #492636. Both items came in simple cardboard boxes with no inside packaging whatsoever and no manuals. The guide stop came with the support foot and the edge guide came with the dust hood. The items appear brand new with no scratches or blemishes but what SHOULD they have been packed in and am I missing anything?

Thanks
Richard.

Richard, most Festool accessories are packed, depending on their size, in either a thin plastic transparent display case, or a carton box made out of thin carton. Packages made for the display case in the store, but not very good for shipping. I've seen more dealers repackaging Festool accessories for shipping.
