Dear Mr Festool,

I have just bought the EHL65 planer that I have posted photos of in the review section. While taking those pictures I noticed what looks like a crack across the metal casting is this common or could it be a mark in the casting process?

A closer picture would help but I am willing to bet it is just a parting line where the molds meet. It is in a classic location for a parting line. All castings have them in one form or another. Often, they get machined away which is why you might not be used to seeing them. Nothing to worry about, IMO.

Dear joiner1970,

Thanks for your post. Unfortunately we don't have an EHL65 here to check it out, since we don't sell that planer in the US (yet). I will forward your question to Festool Germany and ask them to have a look at your picture. The answer will be posted here.

Its the same on mine and I would hazzard a guess on all 65's. It is a casting line as Greg has suggested. I have had the planer for 4 years and it has been well used and it ain't moved!

Cheers Llap and Greg,

I did think it could be a line from casting but wasnt sure sorry the pics not too big I have posted a closer one below. Its on the part of the metal that has not been machined so any marks would still show.

Thanks for confirming my thoughts lads and thanks Christian for forwarding it to Germany, I have never had much help from the UK Festool in the past I would imagine Germany are better.

Joiner1970,

I got an answer from Germany this morning. They checked the die and it is a line coming from the die. Nothing to worry about.

Regards,

Christian

I was just browsing through and read this thread,

What simply amazing customer service!!
I would never baulk at the premium price to receive attention like this.

Christian and all of Festool, thank you.
