This is a credenza with Blistered ash (exterior) and regular ash (interior) veneer and painted mahogany made for a client.  made templates for my festool router to cut the lamination jigs and curved edges.

Yups, really nice. I like the design. Only the extra door in front of the drawers seems a bit silly.

Magnificent... is the material on the doors from one piece?  It looks like the grain matches across the front of the unit.

re: the front doors, they have been veneered with the same flitch of blistered ash veneer so the grain does run continuously through it.

re: doors over the drawers.  Since this was a commission, the customer has the first say, you know? [blink]  she wanted it to look clean in the front with no breaks.  plus there is a amp and CD player and even a turntable [eek] in there.  she didn't want to get rid of her vintage state of the art equipment I guess.  frankly the doors look better anyway. it shows off the wood grain.

Nicely done.  Would like to see some more photos of the details.  Looks like the cabinet unit is resting on a second shelf?  Can you share a few more photos?

photography is not my strongest suit.  Here is another version that I made for myself that is smaller than the first one.  You can see that there is a large wide laminated rail supporting the cabinet, which floats inside that space.  It is also supported on the underside of that top with slot-screwed rails.  This one is Japanese Tamo veneer and NO INTERNAL DRAWERS.  This was my first choice for this client but she wanted a more substantial side piece.  I like mine better.

I like the one you made for yourself better than the commissioned piece.  I don't have a problem with the drawers behind the door on the left.  I just don't like the mixed ash look.  I'd prefer the look of the outside on the drawer fronts and a pullout tray for the turntable instead of the awkward look of it sitting in a drawer.  I also have a preference for undermount slides, especially in such nice looking pieces.

Where is the piece you made for yourself being displayed?  It appears from the one picture it's in a gallery.

everything does pull out like the drawers.  It would be awfully stupid to put a turntable on a shelf don't you think?  all functional electronics pull out on extension drawer slides if needed except for the amp which just has knobs on the front and the double cassette deck (yes she didn't throw anything away)  She did not want to pay for the blistered ash on the interior.

Oops I forgot to mention that this piece is now in our office but it was on display at the Mingei Museum in San Diego.

You didn't read my post, considering your response.  Here's a picture from the Blum tandem slide catalog to give an idea of what I was referring to.  If you're going to display and make use of audio components (including a turntable), why would you want them partially hidden?

oh I see.  the front of the turntable tray does drop down like tea table type thing.  I guess she wanted them to look consistent with the other drawers but the "customer always has to be right", as they say.

I love your work.  I think that you could find several galleries to carry it.  Just because I love the color red I might suggest that you experiment with also with that color / hue where the black is.  Kinda like a paduak - reddish - orange.
