Crestron Drill Terminology

Since the PDC and BHC haven't been available in the US I admit that I haven't paid much attention to them.  Obviously this has now changed.

I completely understand that the BHC is a a true hammer drill.  What I'm  confused about is what Festool means by the term percussion drill.  Is percussion mode on the PDC simply the same as the motion produced by an impact driver like the TI15. is it similar to a hammer drill but slightly different, something totally different?

A Festool percussion drill is basically the same as the BHC hammer drill, but without pneumatic action. With the BHC it is a pneumatic piston inside that rocks back and forth and gives the blow, with the PDC it is just a geared mechanism. The motion is the same, but the pneumatic action of the BHC is a lot stronger.

The direction of the force with the BHC and PDC are along their length axis, driving the bit into the material.

But the Ti15 impact driver is totally different, the impact is given WITH the rotation to make driving screws easy.

Excellent explanation.

With Festool discontinuing the TI15 it still leaves me wondering why they don't offer an impact driver.  I never bought one because I own a T18 and the batteries aren't compatible.  An impact driver chuck would be awesome.  I bet pretty much every drill owner would buy one.

You're welcome. If Festool would ever make an impact chuck I would get that asap for my T15.

Very cool

I like the Mastercraft Impact Wrench converter.  It shows that it can be done and for a reasonable price (I saw one reference to a $40 price tag).  Unfortunately, I don't see the product available for sale when I do a google search.
