Has anyone used this accessory? Not wanting to add junk to my tool crib by buying a shop vac but also don't want to toast my CT22 as well. Thanks

Mark,

I have used it many times over the years for draining out pipes and when we had some minor flooding. It is way, way more convenient to use the Dirt Trap than to take the top off the CT and pick up the bottom and empty it. Alos is easier to clean than hosing out the vac's bottom. Use with the Wet Filters and you are set to go.

Thanks Bob! Sadly, I'm no longer in Seattle so will have to check with our local dealer (good outfit btw) to see if they carry it. Mahalo!

Sounds good; Im sure they can order it for you.

It also traps the hair and debris in the screen on top of the dirt trap instead of having it go in a sink.

You can suck water just as good without the dirt trap, it won't do any harm to the vac, it is made for that. The dirt trap makes it easier to keep the vac clean and empty it.

Is there anything else I need to get beside the tub for the ct22?

CT 22 Dirt Trap For Wet Operation - 452925

Someone mentioned removing the HEPA filters and there were filters for wet pickup....

Thanks

Jack,

This is the dirt trap for the CT22: https://www.festoolusa.com/power-tool-accessories/hepa-dust-extractors/other-accessories/ct-22-dirt-trap-for-wet-operation-452925  You also need the wet filter: https://www.festoolusa.com/power-tool-accessories/hepa-dust-extractors/filters/wet-filter-element-452924

The dirt trap is essentially a two part accessory - a bucket that fits inside the CT22 and a stainless mesh that filters out some of the small gunk.  The filter element keeps foam from entering the motor.

To use it, you remove the paper or cloth bag from your CT and replace it with the dirt trap.  Then you remove the hepa filters and replace them with the wet filters.  Then start sucking up water.  When you're finished, you lift out the bucket, drain and rinse it, and then put the bags and hepa filters back in.

What is odd is that it looks like it's available on the CT22/33 but NOT on the CT26/36.  I suspect that this is because sales of those are low because it's poorly named - "dirt trap" has nothing to do with "wet vac".  If Festool had named it something like "CT Wet Vac Accessory", they would have sold bunches of them.

In any case... I have one.  I'm very happy with it.  And I ain't sellin' it.  :)

Regards,

Dan.

Jack, as Dan said, it's a bucket that goes in the same place as the bag would normally. The mesh top is really utilitarian. Typically when sucking up water, it is full of hair, lint, and other detritus. If you were to just dump the bucket of sucked up water in a sink, you'd get all that junk in the sink. The mesh top filters it out and allows you to dispose of the junk in the trash. That's why it's called a "Dirt Trap"

The CT 22 & CT 33 also have a feature to prevent you from overfilling the bucket (Dirt Trap). There are two tongs that stab into that cavity from above when you "close the hood". Each has a conductive sensor and together, are designed to shut off power if the fluid level gets too high.

Also as Dan said, don't forget to change the filters...

It's a pretty cool system. 'By far, the most sophisticated wet vac' I've seen.

Tom,

Could you send me a PM with the costs?  I'm not sure that I need one but, If I got a clogged drain I might wish that I had the wet system.

Jack,

My apologies.  There's an idiosyncrasy with the forum software includes a period in the URL link if you put it immediately after the URL.  Since I typically add URLs to the end of a sentence, it bit me.  Below are the links without the period.  They work now.

I don't think it has anything to do with salesnumbers, just with the different designs.
The reservoir of the ct22/33 vacs is located behind the engine and is much deeper than that of the ct26/36. So the dirt trap for a ct26/36 would be more like a flat tray than like a bucket, and because you don't have to disonnect hinges like on the ct22/33 vac to empty the reservoir without a dirttrap,  it's less of necessity to have one.

The waterlevel sensors on the ct 26/36 are integrated in the inside "wall" of the compartiment itself, just below the hose connection.

(I also have the dirttrap for my ct22, but I really like that the rubber prongs are gone with the new design, because they are an annoyance during regular use with a bag (making sure they can't puncture the paper bag everytime you close after checking the bag))

After reading this thread about wet vacuuming,  I started wondering if you could vacuum water with the UDD (Ultimate Dust Devil) attached that way you could avoid putting water in your vac (in my case a a CT36). Has anyone tried it ?
