Anyone ever hook up a Makita LS1013 csms or any other saw to a CT 22 dust extractor. looks like i'll have to go the Fernco adapter route. i was just wondering how it worked out.

I use my CT33 - same hose port as CT22 - hooked to my LS1013. I use a basic blue hose from the big Lowes store from their line of vacuums - same size as the 36mm hose and it works fantastic. No adapter needed at all!! If you have the Festool 36mm hose you are all set. The smaller Festool hose barely picks up anything - not enough volume.

I had an older LS1013, and it worked pretty well.  I bought a ShopVac brand hose, and it included an adapter that worked great.

One modification that I had to make was to the little rubber shroud, which would close up.  I made a little larger and stiffer replacement, similar to what Woody did here - http://festoolownersgroup.com/index.php?topic=4959.0

That shroud is KEY!

I made one for my old DeWalt slider and it actually collected at least 80% of the dust if not more and that old style DeWalt was the worst for dust control. Same on my Rigid dust collection improved 50 fold..

I highly recommend you make a little shroud like in Mwhafners post no matter what the brand saw, it makes a huge difference. You may have to make it slightly bigger or wider etc, depending on your saw model.

What product/material did you start with to make that CMS dust collection shroud, and where did you purchase it?

Thanks.  I was thinking that a shroud could be made starting with a cheap automotive mudflap.  Some are made from plastic and others from rubber.  Both types are widely available in USA stores.

Have you seen the Fastcap CMS hood?  I've seen it at my local Woodcraft and think I'll buy one for the shop as well as on-site use.  Maybe its large size and chute (as well as its portability) to a bucket/box on the floor as well as the 32mm hose to my CT22 will catch alot of dust from my Makita CMS.  At least, that's the idea.  Another plus is its cost at $129 list.

Yes I have one but it in no way collects the dust like adding a shroud. Actually it dues let a lot of dust escape into the air.

I would say it is worth it as an added backup, but with a kapex or my Milwaukee I really do not need it. If you do not make or have a good collecting miter than it is helpful.

It is better than some other similar items I have tried.

Dave,

Your suggested material should work fine.  Anything that is thick and stiff enough to keep the vac from closing it off.

Thanks, Nick.  I followed the link to Woody's shroud and see that it's completely different from the hood.  I'll make a shroud this week.

I'm interested in adding a shroud because I don't have the space to position a large hood such as that by Fastcap behind my saw.  I got rid of my RAS for the same reason... lack of space.

thanks, i went to blowes and picked up the blue hose and it fits perfectly to the saw and the ct22. i haven't tested it yet but that and the fastcap dust hood should do the job.
