CT 36 ac problem with the ac function

I did a search but found nothing that helps me so if this has been brought up before I'm sorry. Bought my planex and ct36ac in May. I love it. Decided to buy the blast gate as I became aware of how useful it was. When I first got the vacuum turning the power dial all the way left or right would engage a double ac function on demand and allow the blast gate to do its job. Somewhere over the last couple of weeks this has stopped happening. The only way I can clean the filter short of taking the vacuum apart and doing it manually is to count the time between cycles and hope I close the gate at the right millisecond. Has anyone else had this issue. Is this something I can fix on my end? I really don't want to be without the vacuum if at all possible. Any help is appreciated. [wink]

Hi,

    Welcome to the forum  [smile]

Sorry you didn't get e reply on this problem. I think your best bet would be to call Festool and talk to them about it.

Yeah I wanted to avoid the contacting festool if possible. Luckily the issue seemed to resolve itself today. The auto start didn't trigger so I turned the planex off and then back on. Nothing for another couple of seconds and then it turned on. On a whim I checked the function I described in the original post and it was back to normal. Weird

Mine started doing this about 2 years ago. I also like your suddenly started functioning correctly but would still have the few random times it wouldn’t work still. Today it’s completely stopped working. Vacuum is practically useless without the AC function working as it should so now my guys are standing around whilst I’m on phone to festool. It’s already been back to them twice for another issue they couldn’t fix under warranty and I’m not happy about having to send it back again.

Anyone know what part is causing this problem. Would rather fix it my self and know it’s been done correctly.

Just a heads up for anyone else having this problem in future.

Took the thing apart quickly. Amazing how much dust is in the motor unit area. It was thick with it so cleaned the thing out with blower and noticed there was a seal incorrectly fitted on the motor. It looked to be upside down and not isolating the motor from the chassis of the vac which I guessed was the reason for the high pitched whine they couldn’t fix the 2 times it went back to them as the while has gone now it’s vack together correctly.

Control board area was thick with dust too. Blew out the connections to the board and blew out switches and put back together and it’s wirking like new.

What annoys me most about this is instead of them saying try this first they say that it’s something that can’t be fixed unless they know what part is wrong. Looks like it’s a design flaw and not a part issue.

I remember someone else mentioning this gasket not fitted properly.

I’m surprised they didn’t notice this when it went in twice for repairs in the past. It may have been like this from new but I spotted it as soon as I unscrewed the motor cover. Shouldn’t be happening with a tool of this cost.

If a service center is not able to fix a device (as they have no clue where the error originates from) they should simply supply the customer with a NIB one, then send the defective one back to the factory to be analyzed so the error can be located and the repair manual be updated to include that issue for the next time this comes up.

IMHO a we have no clue what's wrong with it, so have fun with your defective device dosn't cut it for warranty service at any retail price point.
