Hi there-- new member here. Lots of festool out in the shop. We have multiple ct extractors ranging from five years old to a few months old. Our oldest, a ct36 from 2012 will not turn on. The plug works for the attached sander when turned to 'auto' but the extractor will not turn on in 'auto' or 'man'. I'm guessing we overheated it but it has not reset itself. The bag was fairly empty, the filter looks like new and the interior of the machine looks clean. We use two of these 6-8 hours a day sanding hardwood cabinet parts. Am I asking too much of them? What do you think I should try next? I'm guessing put it in a box and send it off but I have no experience with festool service. Any thoughts would be appreciated.  thx

If you've checked that the outlet that the CT is plugged into works, there are a few  things I can suggest checking if you're so inclined - otherwise, send the top to Festool for service.

1. Does the Manual/Offf/Auto switch feel sloppy at all, or are the the positions quite positive?
2. When in the Manual setting with the CT plugged in, does adjusting the suction/speed have any effect?
3. Any damage to the power cord?
4. Check the brushes. If worn out, a pin will spring through the face of it, preventing the machine from running. You can order replacement brushes if required.

Hi,

    Welcome to the forum!

You can give Festool service a call and see what they say.

Seth

After running it 4 years for 6-8 hours a day there's a good chance the brushes are worn like Chris said.

If you're comfortable disassembling powertools you can check and change them yourself, or else you have to let Festool service do it.

That's exactly like what happened to my ct36ac which had a fried module.  Mine was almost new when it happened. Haven't had a problem since it was serviced.

Part number for brushes for the CT 33 are they the same for the 36?

I believe it's - 454874

Can someone verify that for him. I cant find the number from the parts site for the CT 36 brushes.

.thanks everyone.  I will check the brushes in the morning. If they are ok I will call service and see what they think

Brushes looked fine  called service and sent it in . Will post solution when it gets back. Thanks again

In case your interested--
Festool service said the turbine had gone bad. About $200 with return shipping. Another $40 for the hose garage that broke in shipping on the way to them. Hasn't been returned to me yet
Thx

. Thanks for the update. I'm thinking 6-8 hours for almost 5 years would be hard on any work Vac..... [scratch chin]
