CT 36AC & Cleaning kits

  Hi everybody.  newbie here.

I bought a Planex a few months ago when I came accross a great deal on a barely used tool.

I now need to buy the dust extractor, the harness and I would also like to buy a cleaning kit.

I am a bit confused by the hose size on the HEPA Dust extractor vs the AC version. Seems like no cleaning kit extension tubes will fit with the AC hose.

  I want to use the CT  to keep the floor clean, remove the dust from the rotozip when I cut out electrical boxes etc... very basic stuff

  Should I order a extra regular 27 mm hose for use with the cleaning kit, or just a adapter ? Will the 27mm hose fit the opening in the AC ? If so, Can I leave the blast gate on when using the smaller hose ?

Also, can someone please explain why I need the soft pad kit for ? Any advice from an actual planex user ? I dont have any curved walls or nothing fancy to sand. I read and re read the forum, I didnt find much

[member=59679]jumpinthefire[/member] Since I don't have a Planex, will have to limit my comments to the cleaning kit.  According to the website, the CT36AC comes with a 36mm hose, so this will fit all the cleaning kits out there.  If for some reason the hose is bigger, then Festool makes a 50mm to 36mm hose adapter that will work just fine.

All Festool hoses have the same size connector for the vac end, so any hose you buy will hook in, including the 27mm one.

You will probably want a 27mm hose at some point though if you plan to add sanders to your arsenal, as the larger diameter hoses generate a lot of suction.

The flange prohibited the hose from being used with the compact cleaning set. It (the flange) is used to positively lock the hose to the Planex so that it doesn't pull lose during use.

You could buy another hose. But, if you plan on getting a cleaning set, consider one that comes with a hose. The Workshop Cleaning Set comes with a 36mm hose, for instance. Also, the Industrial Cleaning Set comes with a 50mm hose, albeit non-antistatic.

Welcome to the forum. You didn't ask about it but regarding the harness, once you get it configured it does take the load off the arms when doing ceilings. Unfortunately for me though I had a really hard time using it with vaulted ceilings which is really common here and often the highest ceilings where I'd want to use it the most. Hopefully you can make better use of it than I did.

The soft pad helped me reduce some swirl marks a bit, not sure if that's its purpose but it helped some

The Planex/36 AC hose can be used with all cleaning sets EXECPT the Compact Cleaning Set, without modification to the hose or tools. If you modify the Compact bent handle or do not use the bent handle the Planex hose will work.

If I recall correctly the Planex/36 AC hose will not work on the 850 planer.

I can`t wait to try the harness. The planex with one extension seems a bit too short for my 9` ceillings. On the pictures I found, looks like the harness extension pole gives you a little more reach, which should be perfect.

There is a learning curve to the harness. Getting it adjusted properly and yourself in the right position is a challenge the first few times you use it.

Extra hoses are a good thing.
