Hi Christian

I was wondering if the CT-SG GARAGE was going to become avaliable here because
I recently broke the hose holder plastic connection on my ct-33. I think that other people
have broken this too, and could use it for this and for the hose storage.

THANKS
Carl

Hi Carl,

Yes, the hose garage is on the list of products which will be introduced in the next months. We have to get enough of them in the warehouse before we start the market introduction. Since in Europe every CT comes with a hose garage now, the demand there is pretty high. The hose garage will be available as an accessory in the US.

Regards,

Christian

What is a "hose garage?"  I have a CT 22 E with 27 mm X 3.5 m A/S hose.  I have not broken anything in the ~1 year I have owned it, but have found that I prefer to use the larger, more flexible hose from my Fein vacuum when I can (it doesn't the oval DC port on my DX 93).  Is there any chance that future Festool hoses will be more flexible?

Dave,

The hose garage is a new accessory that goes on top of the CT22 and CT33 vacuum to store the
cord and the hose, similar to the storage on top of the CT Mini. See here for a photo of a CT with
a hose garage on the German website: http://www.festool.de/mediandoweb/index.cfm?ID_O_TREE_GROUP=1794&PARENT=1767&AKTIVPROD=1

By the way, if somebody has a better name for this product, we are open for suggestions!

The green hoses are antistatic hoses. The high-carbon plastic that provides this antistatic feature
makes the hose a little bit less flexible than non-antistatic hoses. You are losing the antistatic feature
if you are using a Fein hose with a Festool tool and a Festool vacuum. If you are using a Fein vacuum,
you can also use the Fein hose, since the Fein vacuum can´t deal with the static charge that an
antistatic hose leads to the vacuum anyways.

Here is a more thorough explanation from the Festool knowledge base:

What makes an antistatic hose antistatic is that it conducts static electricity to ground. Festool antistatic hoses have no visible electric leads; the high-carbon plastic they are made from conducts high voltage. The tool is grounded by way of the hose, through dust extractor, to the ground where it is plugged. If there is an open ground where the dust extractor is plugged, there is still the possibility of electric shock from the high voltage static charge produced by moving dust.

Some dust extraction systems have a visible copper lead where you attach the hose. In that case, the conductive Festool antistatic hose will work to ground the tool to that dust extraction system. The ground must be continuous however for the system to work. The outlet it's plugged into must be grounded for the system to be antistatic.

Shop vacs are generally not antistatic. If you are using your Festool with a standard shop vac or another brand of dust extractor that is not antistatic then there is no need to purchase an antistatic hose, it won't eliminate static charge.

Festool is working on other hoses, but there will be no solution in the short term.

Christian

Thanks, Christian.  I hope the USA price does not go up to match that in Euros!  A place to better store my Festool hose would be great!  The name "hose garage" seems fine to me, but I'm not a marketing person.

Maybe "Hose Terminal"  :-\  ok ok This is it!! Port-A-hose!! yeah wo hoo I win! whats my prize :D

Dave,

I called Festool USA before the Holidays about it... or as I called it the "Hose Store Top" like the top on the Mini Vacuum....  They had never heard about it.... but I gave them the # 494 388, they where rather surprised to see that it showed up as "just arrived inventory" & the price they quoted me was $45.  I also asked how much it adds to the height of the CT 22, of course at the time they had "no specifications" on the item that they didn't know existed until I call... :D  I since figured it will add about 4 1/8" to the height.  (the height of the euro CT w/hose garage - height of CT USA)

I suppose I should have ordered it right then... 'cause now you can't order "Hose Garage" until they have "enough for demand" & it will probably be twice the price.

In looking at the opening at the front of the Hose Garage, I was wondering if a hose could be inserted and would self coil within the Garage without removing a Systainer attached on top?

Corwin

Corwin,

Well, if you have a LOT of time or you are a snake-charmer, you might be able to do that  :D.
It is a lot faster though to just remove the Systainer, put the hose into the "garage" and
put the Systainer back on top of it.

Christian

Thanks Christian.  After seeing this here, I thought it might share with the Sortainer (also on my wish list) the advantage of being accessable from beneath a Systainer without it having to be removed.  Guess the Systainer for the Cleaning Set I recently purchased will work as well for me.  But, if I ever meet a snake-charmer...

Thanks again,
Corwin
