So, when setting my dust extractor down from the benchtop to the floor, to my surprise, the wheel pops off. To my even further surprise, when looking closer the entire corner of the vacuum is shattered, thus rendering the entire unit useless. Note, I did not drop it, just set it down. Temperature in the workshop was 50 degrees fahrenheit.
Just got off the phone with Festool, and was told, even though it's a defective plastic that has since been replaced on newer models, mine's out of warranty and I'm on my own. They have a replacement part made of the correctly engineered plastic, but expect me to pay $150.00 for the privilege of continuing to use their fine product. I think I'd rather go back to my Fein.
Question is, since this seems to be a rather common problem, and the defect is admitted by the manufacturer, does anyone know of a class action lawsuit or other remedy in the works, or be interested in joining one?
