CT22E Won't Power Up (Really!)

I'm a newbee hobbyist to Festool but have quickly become a four systainer customer including the Domino, ETS 150/3, and a CT22E.  Everything was working great (four bookcases and sanding of a ship-lapped knotty pine wall in the garage) until yesterday with still only my first bag of dust half-filled. The dust extractor stopped running!  It will not run on auto or manual.  The sander works fine when plugged into the the CT22, so I know there is power through the system.  Although I didn't think the system had overheated, I waited some time and tried to start the extractor again.  It still will not power up.  I'm concluding that I have a rare motor (or switch) failure.  It's the weekend now and so I must wait until Monday for some help from my supplier, but thought I'd put up my first note on this message board and see if perhaps there is a magic circuit breaker or other miracle available.

Not that I know of. The high water contacts inside maybe, but you weren't sucking wet were you? Checked the filters, wiggled cords and switches of course. Sounds like Stand By............................................................................Contact Festool.............................................

Eli,

Thanks for the prompt reply.  The extractor has only been used for the dry stuff.  No reactions from wiggling the cord/switches.

Merry Christmas!

Make sure you let us know what the resolution is (no, not New Year's resolutions)

Looks like I will have to wait until Wednesday as the service dept. at my supplier (McFeely's) is not open until then.  They need a holiday too!

Merry Christmas!

See if Festool's service center is working today, I'd call them.

Any self-respecting person stuck in an office being forced to work on Christmas Eve will be half-cut by now. Or is that just us Brits*? ;D :P :-\

Edit: *And the Aussies, too! :D

Hey, you guys are right on!  It was the right thing to do to call Festool service.  They have a record of my extractor.  The fellow I spoke with was willing to stay on the line and walk me through analyzing the unit.  He suspects a switch or the motor itself.  Unfortunately my wrench set is still in the dark ages-no Torx set, so we are going to ship the CT's lid (which includes the component that failed) down for service (all at Festool expense).  UPS will show up Wednesday.  Now I just have to find a suitable cardboard box and some packing material.

I'll report when the unit is received back here.

Again, Merry Christmas

OK, the packaged repaired lid (motor etc.) arrived yesterday  (Jan  8), 13 days after it was sent.  That's darn good turnaround assuming five day UPS each way.

I reinstalled the filters and put the lid back in the frame, plugged in and away she went!  Everything works as good as new.

The only negative and it's a nit, is there was no documentation provided to show what was done to the unit.

All was done at no cost although I did pay $10.50 to get it safely packed (we just don't keep that size box and bubble wrap around the house anymore).  Thanks Festool for the quick and appropriate service!

Just bought a new CT22E today and the exact same thing is happening to me.  It won't run on auto or manual, but tools plugged into the vac run fine.

Luckily, I bought it locally and will exchange it at the store tomorrow.

DM,

Right decision!  I'm sure they will take care of the problem.  I received a letter a couple days ago with the invoice showing what they did- replace the electronic module and cleaned.

Gramps, I assume Festool did not charge you for the repair, correct assumption?

Brice,

Correct.  I understand that we (in the US at least) have a two year warranty.  My machine is just over a year old. :) :)

My CT22 just started doing the same thing. Normally wiggling the power switch would get it to work. I'll have to call tomorrow...

Now I have to carry the CT26 into the basement.

Calling Festool clearly worked for me.  My machine is still running great.

If your machine is under warranty you should be ok.  Keep us informed.

Happy New Year [smile]

My 22 required a new motor.
