I have several CT36 Dust Collection Systems and two of them have an electrical burning smell. They work fine but I have shut them down due to concerns about fire etc. I replaced both filters but I still can smell a very obvious electrical burning smell. I need to get these back up and running ASAP so any thoughts are very much appreciated. Thanks!

I'm surprised it still works.  Last month my CT36E developed a burning smell and stopped working.  The control module had failed (unit was under warranty).

Two warnings about what to expect:  1.  It took Festool almost three weeks to return the unit to me.  2.  The unit was returned only partly working: neither the tool on-power on nor the Bluetooth remote work after return to me.

Obviously, Festool didn't bother to test either the DE or the BT module before shipping it back to me.

It's on its way back to Festool, but I consider this shockingly bad warranty service - from anyone, and very especially from Festool.  This is not baseball...you do not get three swings at the ball.

I bought two cheap shop vacs that are working fine, but I was hoping to find an answer to this issue. I had sent one to them, and all they said was that it was going to cost over $500 to repair it. I about pooped myself, rejected the out-of-warranty repair and had it sent back. It arrived damaged and I ended up being into the shipping both ways at almost $300. I have been using their products since 2011, and I am pretty bummed about the reliability of these very expensive vacuum systems.

Festool intentionally returns rejected repairs disassembled.  They point this out in the paperwork when you agree to send it in for diagnosis.

They also (allegedly) repair everything that is worn and out of spec when you send in a tool, with the goal of returning it in "like new" condition.  For this reason, something "simple" on an older model may turn into a much higher bill if other parts are found to be worn or damaged, as they will also be included in the BOM for the repair activity.

What did the diagnosis conclude was wrong with the tool?  There should have been a list of parts on the repair order, and the parts can be purchased separately and user-installed.
