Curse you Festool! (and FOG)

ha! Peter's description had me thinking of a good parody video with a green pulpit.  And don't go sacrificing your fingers in the shop, Peter... that's not allowed.

Someone with Photoshop skills needs to turn Shane's profile pic into a Festool Druid (that person isn't me!)

My photoshop skills are on probation. Not me!

We're well beyond the point where we deserve having our own syndrome named after our behavior.

But we're all so far gone that we'd see it as a complement ..

Hears .. "sir, you are suffering from Advanced Festool Addiction Syndrome"

Thinks .. "hey cool - I've made it to ADVANCED"

So I guess were actually suffering from

FTSD

FessTool Stress Disorder

Its what happens when exposed to Festools ya dont really need but want and have to figure out how to pay for them

plus those hideously expensive accessories

For the record, Festools are high-priced, but they are not expensive.

I would argue that a $200 circular saw is more expensive than a $525 TS 55.

I explained that to a guy yesterday. I bought the Kapex extension for use on BOTH my kapex and MFT. I The guy said the it cost a lot for what I was getting. But I asked him:

1) How much is a Biesmeyer 6' fence for a miter saw? Its around $159more if ya get the 8' fence. Its only good for a miter saw. Then if you want a bisemeyer for your Table saw your looking at a lot more. Not sure but guessimate around $200-$300 so in reality the Festool was the same or less expensive then the beismeyer..

I guess its all how you lok at it. I like tools to be versatile and the  festools are that...

ex·pen·sive (k-spnsv)
adj.
1. Requiring a large expenditure; costly.
2. Marked by high prices

Nobody said Festool wsn't worth it but I consider a $606.38 saw to be a large expenditure - but hey, that's just me!  [big grin]

My Festool addiction as also enabled an additional addiction to Woodpeckers tools and his "One Time" tools. The shop is full of expensive red aluminum with white numbers on them.

Yeah Greg, I just emailed Richard at Woodpeckers clarifying my order request and now I realize that I will be going there quite often!

Hmm, if I sold you a lollipop for $50, would that be expensive?

What if I sold you a brand new Dodge Viper for $50, would that be expensive?

(and no I don't have either one -- to sell or otherwise!)

There are some people who know the price of everything and the value of nothing...and then we have Festool owners who appreciate the value of their lovely tools.

Peter

I think "value" is more appropriate ... To me, "expensive" has to be a relative term.

Eg - this sandpaper is expensive compared to that ... and ... it costs $20 to finish the surface with sandpaper A v's $30 with sandpaper B.

I guess your only an addict if you admit to your addiction!
I only popped into my local tool shop and came out a festool nut (bloody sneaky festool)
I came out with a ts55 and guide rails.............
Oh and now the list is as follows
Kapex with ug undermount
Rotex 150 sander
Dx 93 sander
Ctl 26 dust extractor
Ctl midi dust extractor
Ti 15 impact driver
C15 cordless drill
Centrotec set
Ps 400 jigsaw
Spirit levels
Of 2200 router and copying rings
Ofk 700 edge router
A few sortainers and systainers for all other tools (non festool)
As I said I only popped in the shop
Now the wife says she is a festool widow, she says it's not normal to have a festool catalogue next to the bed and recently she checked my browser history  [scared] only to find nothing but festool and FOG...........

[scared] [scared]

Paddy that is one heck of a in at the deep end jump!! I bet the dealer was blowing kisses at your shadow as you left!!

You could suggest a new Festool strap line "Money is but a lubricant for tools"!!!

Actually, neither one of the above would be expensive  - $50 is not a lot of money to me, $600, relative to $50 is. Once again, I fully appreciate Festool's VALUE and I think their tools and service, guarantee, etc. are worth every penny. That does not mean their products are not "expensive" for me to purchase, i.e. requiring a "large" (to me) expenditure.  So basically we're playing with one's personal definition of the word "expensive", which makes the whole discussion meaningless  [wink]

Chris

We have a saying here:

Life is (expensive).  [big grin]

Welcome Paddy.  Wow, you have it bad, that's some list of tools.  It's that pesky TS55, it sucks everyone in  [blink]

Then, when I was in Lee Valley (curse them too!) I saw the Kapex and since I do a lot of trim work and needed to do 8 inch baseboards and the bevel function was so great, I decided to buy that as well. But wait! there was a package of course so I could save over $100 by getting a CT with the Kapex - Hello Mini!

Finally, as I don't have a shop I was looking at the MTF/3 for job site and home use, and of course, there was the TS 55, mocking me when I thought of hauling around my portable table saw with all it's issues - and hey, it's another package deal with the MFT/3 so another $100 "saved"

(snip)

Chris   [crying]

Don't feel bad Chris.... Darned Lee Valley got me too.... my first sip was over 3k..... ;D ;D

Cheers -

Rob

Ahhh... for me it was a week at the WoodenBoat School in Brooklin, Maine. I USED to be happy with my old Bosch sanders, but no more.

I'm ruined - if I didn't know beforehand, justifying the "second" CT 36 removed all doubt!

So is there a secret handshake for meetings, or do we launch straight into the 12-step program? Coffee, cookies or is the 'fridge already stocked with beer?

Mike

What did you expect me to say?

Great company.  Great products.  Great forum.  Great members.

As Tony the Tiger would say .........
