Customized T-Loc Handles (3D Printed)

@ Baremeg55: Oh no! Send me a message, and I'll send you some replacements.

The faceplates are printed layer by layer, and as such they can delaminate if bent too much (especially with some the longer tool names / smaller letters). This isn't a problem once they are in the t-loc as it acts as support / prevents bending.

This video shows how to install them, and should prevent any loss of letters. Seating 3 of the tabs and then applying pressure to the 4th should do the trick.

Ben,

I take full responsibility for my faceplate letters delaminating.  As I said, I will order some replacements soon, as well as a few new ones.  Thank you for the generous offer though.

Have you tried "printing" dominoes?  I would think festool green dominoes in all the various sizes with a 5mm hole a few mm from each end would be wonderful dry assembly aids. The 5 mm holes would allow for inserting a tool to help removal in case things get tight and the smooth plastic should help prevent that problem anyway. No reason they couldn't be hollow if the printer will allow for that too. I've actually been thinking of taking that idea to a prototype plastic outfit down the road to try out, but you're more than welcome to the idea if it'll work with the printer.

So Ben, have you had a chance to persue printing dominoes yet?  Subsequently thought about printing quas dogs or parf dogs. Lots of possibilities, not nearly enough time!
Good Luck, Jim.

These inserts are awesome but the cleats are fantastic! Thanks for sharing and making them available.

The only problem with making the bench dogs will be the lamination of 3D printed objects and consistency with the outer dimension. You could reduce the de-lamination issue by changing the printed orientation but the consistency of OD will still be an issue.  3D printing is good and with calibration it can be pretty spot on but the parf dogs (that's what I have) are machined and all match exactly. So you can use them to align. If you did 3D print a set of bench dogs, I would leave them a bit oversized and then use a lathe to make sure they are reduced to the exact same size. Maybe I'm over thinking this but the precision of the parf dogs was part of the reason I wanted to use them. Another option would be to order HDPE or other hard plastic rod stock and use a lathe to make them, cheaper and easier to machine than aluminum versions. If we discuss this further I think another thread would be a good idea.

My apologies if this has already been mentioned.

Ben, what about offering the entire set shown in your picture (which I have reattached)?

Somehow I found  your cleats and First Aid T-Loc and ordered them, but rather than buying a few of the tool specific T-Locs here and there, I'd be more inclined to buy the lot.

Why would people want to purchase T-Locs for products not owned or with no intention to purchase?  Ben has been very accommodating and will work with you to supply whatever combo (or all) you want?

Because of the 40-some T-Loc faces shown in the example, I could use 20-some of them immediately and a few of the others in future, and I would be looking for a bulk price.

Besides, Festool and Systainers are systemic by design.  Why not get the set while they're available?  My guess is that there are more than a few members here that could put a fair chunk of that set to work now.  ; )

The problem with 3D printing is that it isn't a bulk way of producing.
Which means that selling bulk won't decrease the cost of creating the goods :) .

And Ben, thanks for the first aid latchplate! It works perfectly.
I glued it with a few drops 10sec glue and it's stuck pretty firm :P .

Hey everyone, apologies for not updating this project for a while.

Regarding large orders, bleiblei is right, producing them in bulk doesn't decrease the cost / time it takes to make them. I can only discount the larger sets, as I save money on listing / credit card transaction fees. Doing the custom order thing also allows for accommodation for non-festool items or accessories.

Thanks again everybody.

Received my cleats/latches yesterday along with a sample T-Loc handle insert yesterday, they look great Ben! Will be placing an order very soon for more of the T-Loc inserts.  [cool]

Hello Ben. I'm wondering if u can customize them. Black face plate with red letters? Or some colours like that? Pls let me know.  Let say black plate with MKH in red

They work well but you do need to use glue - double stick tape worked really well for me (the woodworking kind that is thin)

Hi all,

**SPRING CLEANING SALE**

I've posted cleats and faceplates with visual imperfections at 50% off or more.

Functionally everything is fine, they just have discoloration, gaps, blobs, or paint splatter that can probably be repaired / cleaned.

Cheers,

Ben

Can you do grey with black letters?  I was thinking of color combinations to separate my Systainers. Like black background / green type for sanders,  grey background black type for routers,  green background/black type for drills,  red background /white type for drilling bits or saws.

TheTrooper,

Grey is possible, I just don't have any grey filament at this time. Would white with black or green type work for you?

Currently, I have green, black, red, white, and tan filament.

I received my faceplates from BEN_ last week and sorted through them and attached most to the T Locs tonight. They are very nice! I did about 30 seconds of sanding on each one, and I attached them with a few dabs of silicone. Ben was great to work with, and made me some regular versions from his list (OF2200, RO90 etc..), as well as custom faceplates such as 'DOMINOS' 'SURFIX' '5" PAPER'. I think these will make things easier to find instead of having to look at the small pictures on each Systainer. Great stuff, thanks Ben.

I spoke to Ben a couple months ago and he said he was shutting down for a little while to prepare for a cross country move. He said he would reopen when he can.

Hey guys,
Sent Ben an e-mail a few weeks ago and he responded that he is is no longer doing the custom t-locs.
