Cutting 4x4's on Kapex

Hey all

I'm just starting to put my Kapex through its paces and haven't been that impresses as of yet when trying to cut 4x4's. When I get to the very bottom of the cut I get a fairly decent kickback that occurs - which isn't all that much fun.

So I'm wondering if its something that I'm doing wrong or if there is a better way of approaching cutting 4x4's? My short term solution is to go about 2/3's of the way through and turn the beam... not ideal but it kinda "works".

Thanks for the help
Anthony

Can't speak from personal experience, but these links may answer your question:
Start at about 3:25 Festool TV/ youtube-kapex

At about 15:40 Dave cuts a 4"x 6".
Dave Reinhold TV Kapex review

Adjusting the speed and plunge rate may help as well.

My guess is a jigsaw might be a better option with the long blade (145mm Trion) if it is a true 4" x4".

Or possibly a bandsaw if close enough to one end.

Could also finish off the cut with a hand saw.

Or possibly the "sword saw" if it ever becomes available in the US.

It's kicking because the wood is pinching the blade.  Try placing a very thin shim under the cut so the two pieces do not collapse on the blade.  Also make sure that the ends are not raised above the saw deck level.  It will also kick if the same situation occurs against the fence.  I cut 24' long aluminum storefront extrusions and you do not realize just how tight your anal sphincter muscle is and how easy carbide teeth come off a blade until you have pinched one of these.
