Cutting drywall and lath and plaster?

I haven't had the need or opportunity to cut through lathe and plaster before but for making low vibration straight cuts through masonry type products I would turn to the often maligned dual saw with diamond blades. I'm using this saw more and more for demo type work where I don't want the harsh vibrations of a sawzall.

When you say "Fein saw" you don't mean a Multimaster do you?  I've used the Multimaster many times to cut a switch or outlet in but it would've taken an entire day to cut around the perimeter of ceiling.  I can't imagine the number of blades I would have gone through.
multimaster is the thing I use but for a whole perimiter I would go plunge wall chaser with extractor I only use multimaster where I dont want the ceiling for a hat & and you are right regarding blades they get eaten up fast if you bite them old tacks , if we install downlights in an old lath & plaster ceiling we carefully cut squares out with multimasters then sheetrock finished to just under existing ceiling level then plaster , not sure why you need to cut around the whole perimiter of a ceiling we only do that to save damage to decorative cornices when we have to replace say entire ceilings and if running lighting cables where no access can be gained through floors above we measure ceiling joists cut small wholes to feed cables through we choose to do this for first fix electrical as most electricians destroy & think after , we did an entire remodel on a massive project where we did all the network cat 5 & electrical first fix and also banham alarm cabling because they wouldn't chase a thing , time saved on ceiiling repairs was far better than letting subs smash  the place to bits, and yes we charged for all first fix .
