CXS leaking grease??

I have had and used a CXS for the last two months. I haven't pushed it overly hard, but yesterday I noticed that the hex headed drive shaft is leaking grease. I noticed it because I took off the centrotec chuck and set it on a porcelain sink and it left a greasy ring. I am glad I noticed before I set it on something more difficult to clean. As this is my first Festool drill, is this a common occurrence?  I have never had this issue with a different manufacturer, but they also had a fixed chuck. I love being able to switch chucks on a whim. And apparently with the drive shaft lubing up all my chucks, I will never have the problem of on of my chucks getting stuck on;). Is this a problem where I need to call Festool service, or do I just need to be diligent in wiping off the offending grease now and then?

Thanks
Dan

I would suggest that you call Festool service and ask about your situation.  The number should be on your tool or 1800 554-8741.  Let us know how it goes.

Never seen or heard of the CXS leaking anything. I don't work in the service department either. But, I do usually have a pretty good grasp on common issues.

Like Peter suggested, give the service department a call or shoot them an email. They will definitely be in a better position to troubleshoot and offer assistance.

I don't see how anything would/could come out of there.

I think there was a little lube on the key less chuck on mine, maybe from that?

Bump..

My CXS has also been leaking a tiny bit of oil since I bought it. It's not a big deal but as was mentioned the chucks will sometimes leave a small oily ring on surfaces when they're stood up. I haven't used the drill too much but if it gets any worse I'll have to call it in.

Are we talking a film of oil/grease-like substance or a drip occasionally?

I don't think any proper seal (of the sort used on power tools) should leak but if it's a leftover trace of lubricant, that's different.

That's what I believe it is.

I wouldn't say it's dripping out but I'll wipe the drill's drive shaft and chuck clean, and then after using the drill for a day or whatever there will again be a tiny bit of oil that has seeped out of the drill and transferred onto the chuck. Not much at all, just enough to occasionally leave a minimal oily ring if you set the chuck down on end.

It's not even really a bother, I was just curious if this is just a case of a bit too much oil or lube from the factory or what.
