Has anyone else noticed that the centrotec chuck does not seem to fit in the formed storage location in the tray?  It shows a picture of it in place on the photograph inside the lid of the case, but I cant seem to make mine fit without REALLY pressing it in HARD!  Seems like the spot for it was molded undersized.  Am I alone?  I saw two cases at my local dealer which both had the same issue.

Thanks!

Hi,

Welcome to the FOG!  [smile]

I do not have the CXS so I can't check it out for you. But I know that many  regulars on here do have the CXS.  I think you will get some info in short order.

Mines tight also, but its made like that so that it won't come out during transport.  Normally I keep mine attached to the drill.

As Rocky has stated it is tight for a purpose, it makes transporting much more secure. It is basically a press fit in the insert

I'll say its a press fit!  My C12 fits nice and easy.  The jacobs-style chuck fits nice and easy as well......  If I didnt already know how perfect Festool's are I might think that they made a slight mistake! :)  Unrelated, but I cant wait to get my hands on the new jigsaw, whose designation escapes me at the moment.

Thanks for the replies.  I have pressed mine in as well, and maybe while stored the plastic tray will creep from an interference fit to more of a line-to-line fit!

Mine won't fit either, not even close. I have had a lot of trouble with my CSX. First the battery died within the first week, then the magnet pulled out of the drive shaft and ended up in the angle attachment rendering it useless with the centrotech chuck.
I own quite a few festool powertools and they have not given any trouble and have had good build quality. The CSX is a piece of crap. Unfortunately New Zealand doesn't have a 30 day return policy like North America, so I guess I'm stuck with it. How hard is it to glue a magnet in properly?

ROFL, another magnet coming loose. John, you're not the only one to whom this happend. And not just with the CXS, but with centrotec bitholders in general. Happened to a bitholder of mine. Many people have reported a manget coming loose by now. The glue Festool uses is crap. I can't believe Festool stil uses it after the gazillion times this complaint has been made here on the forum.

That sad, the CXS certainly is NOT crap. I don't have one, but we read many testimonies here of satisifed owners. Too bad your battery went dead, but you're the first person to mention this so I don't think the CXS is to blame, just a bad battery, which can happen on occasion. I do hope you contacted Festool and got the faulty battery replaced, and the magnet fixed. Better would be to fix the magnet yourself with a bit of superglue, works a lot better than Festool's glue. Once you get these little kinks sorted out, I'm sure you'll grow to appreciate the CXS.

Yah the CXS is one of Festools gems, battery problems can happen though i never had any.
And as Alex mentioned the magnet problem is almost inherent to Festool drills, i have 2 drills and 4 bit holders and all of the magnets came loose at some point.
I doubt your angle attachment cannot be recovered, some super glue on a flat nail head should do it.

I am however wondering if theres anything up with the insert, mine is from 2011 and it's perfectly fine. The chuck hole is tight, but just enough to keep it from coming loose.
Since these are molded i cannot imagine why on earth they would redo it, unless they changed the configuration of something. Pics would help clear that!

Alex, I get your point about the battery, sure these things do happen occasionally. I got a dud, they replaced it no questions asked. But I have to ask the question what is your definition of crap? The way I look at it, if parts start to fall off a tool and have an adverse effect on the operation of that tool within the first week of purchase, that makes it crap. After hearing that the magnet problem is not an isolated incident, this has cemented my opinion. Why should anyone have to superglue a magnet in a drill that costs double the opposition, I don't mind paying extra if this will gaurantee me reliabillity under reasonable conditions.
