Hello, I love the Danish Mid Century Modern modular shelving units like those made by Royal Systems and others.

Has anyone made something similar? I am OK with the cabinet build but having trouble with the hardware. Are there any reasonably priced hardware options?

I am thinking the LR32 would be great for the wall support pieces.

Thanks,
Heather

Awesome stuff, thanks for sharing.  Would love to have something like that.  If only the space...

Hey Heather

The second link is awesome. The wife and I just puchased a piece from Kenny. He comes across some great pieces. Plus he's a riot.

I have an area in my house that I am planning on doing a similar project. Custom sized units, so no vintage for me :(
Plus this is my livelihood, so it only makes sense to use the tools to make dust.

I am leaning towards the last option. I'm sure you have scoured all the resources and know that they are typical secured in place with three angled dowels. I will most likely set the drill press on an angle with a stop and go to town. I've recently used that method for a stair rail build.

These operations are typically easier, faster and more accurate when performed on stationary equipment. I love my Festools and use them daily, however they have their place.

I will be watching for updates. Best of luck

Dan

I think the LR 32 would be wonderful for getting the spacing right, but noticed that the one system linked on Flickr used square holes.  I haven't seen a square bit for the OF 1010 lately, though...  [poke]

For a related look, you might try the aluminum support systems from ISS Designs.  They're very cleanly detailed and adaptable.

Heather, we have three sets of Cado wall units in our house.  One in my wife's sewing area, one in the living room and one in the basement.  If you need any more photos or measurements I would be happy to provide.  We have both styles, the one with the brass supports and the one with the wooden supports.

Those almost look like some of the 8020 stuff.  Thinking………..

Those are great Ward.  Just like I want! I am trying to figure out how the cabinets attach to the different types.  There are not many photos of the backs of the cabinets online.  I wonder how one could incorporate a domino also…..

I made one like the first link in August but haven't got back to photo yet. I had a good blacksmith make the brass rods for me. They were 22 euro plus 23% vat each. That comes in at 53 euro a shelf. For 14 shelves 742 euro. The LR32 was very handy and only used every 4th hole.

Heather, the cabinets attach two different ways as you probably know.  There is a system with brass rods and a system with angled dowels.  The system with the brass rods is a little more forgiving but IMHO the system with the angled dowels is more refined.  Here is a photo of the back of the shelf bracket.  The cabinets have two angled dowels at the top and two at the bottom I believe.  The wall mounted standards have corresponding angled holes for the dowels to slide in to. The wall mounted portions have to be exact as there is no wiggle room for the angled dowel to go in the the angled hole if they are not mounted perfectly.  Beautiful when installed though.
Here is the photo of the shelf bracket.
