If you don't have D27 hose to "waste", this is a very cost effective item to purchase. The hose ends alone come to $34. So for $16 you're getting the short hose and assembly. You then get to keep your current 27mm hose at full length.
I have had NO issues with using the adapter. I've used it with the Domino, sanders and jigsaw. It works no different that if you simply had a full length 27mm hose hooked up.
I now use the 36mm hose end on the TS55 and routers (though the adapter works just fine for this, too...)
I'm still using the adapter that I made and posted, without any problems whatsoever. You only need to sacrifice about 1 ft of 27 mm hose and buy the end fittings to make one. And I am still using the same 36mm and 27mm hoses, too. How much have I used it? My TS 55 needs repair of its arbor shaft bearings.
I haven't cut down a 27, but I have cut down a 36 for my Kapex with no regrets. I cannot conceive of any ill effects of cutting down a 27 hose (unless you cut it too short!!) I believe in using, and modifiying, tools as needed for the task at hand. Go at it.
