dead blow hammers/assembly mallets

Seth’s Nupla looks exactly like the Amstrong set I bought around 1988.

Except I don’t think the Armstrong came with a case.

Yup, there is a bunch of rebranding on that set . The set I have is branded SK Tools.

Seth

Thinking of rebranding I was kinda surprised to see that the replacement heads have Armstrong embossed on the screw side. I expected to see either another company name (the oem?) or just a number.

I laugh at the “virtually indestructible” designation in the ad.  I was at the Benjamin Moore paint store the other day and I mentioned to the salesman that their rubber mallet looked like it had been used on a grinding wheel.  At least 1/2” to 1” of the face had been worn off on both sides.

The handle might be nearly indestructible.

yup Seth I have that exact set with 8 faces and the handle everything says Nupla except the handle is silk screened SK 8610

There’s a big difference between rubber & polyurethane and they’d probably damage the paint cans if they used a polyurethane mallet.

So they’re using their best option...it may not be optimum but it's the best they have considering the shortage of labor in the US.

Hi all,

Looking for a couple of different size non marring dead blow hammers and assembly mallets. The key is that they must be non marring.

I was leaning towards the harder supercraft and simplex mallets with the soft face (blue). Can anyone confirm that these are non marring?

I was looking at the lixie also, but seems they’re unavailable online.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks !

Hi Andrew

I have two mallets. One is a 20oz Thor (on the right) ...

The other started life as Veritas cabinetmaker's hammer (on the left above), but I modified this with UHMW faces and shaped handle. Also around 20oz ..
