I finished it up this morning. It was still a bit wet when I took the pictures.  I really like using Deft spray lacquer rather than the poly I normally use.  Much more forgiving and it looks really good.  Rockler came out with a new spline jig that uses dowels rather than flat splines.  I suppose I could also use the DDF40 for the same thing but I would be worried about some tear out on the back side.  I had to do something since miter joints are inherently not very strong when it's joining end grains together.  I'll have to try it this weekend. That's a Mafell box it's sitting on.  Got the MT55cc this week.  It's a beast.

Nice job, Howard.  Finish is great and the contrasting splines add some special interest.

I like the handle design, and the dowel spline jig produced great results. You did a nice job on the tray  :)
